David Jaffe's PSP Project Is Dead, Working on PS3

David Jaffe is no longer working on the PSP game that was supposed to make you burst into tears. "That game is- for the moment- on the shelf," said the typically outspoken developer in his blog. "The core reason is that it was very ambitious and so was/is WarHawk. The same developer is making both games ... so Scott (head of Incog) and I said: fuck it. We'll do HL later...maybe."

Instead of heading back to Kratos, however, Jaffe has dived head first into a PlayStation 3 game, with apparent similarities to Twisted Metal and Bomberman. The game hasn't been officially announced yet, though Jaffe estimates a release date sometime between November and January -- a surprise launch game, perhaps? His comments don't seem to put it out of the question.

A one trick pony? Wasn't he the primary one responsible for the Twisted Metal games? Outside of the ones Sony shoveled off to 989 Studios (Twisted Metal 3 and 4), that is a stellar series.

Gran Turismo for PSP has also been shelved while the team works on Gran Turismo 4 versions for the PS3 and Gran Turismo 5 for PS3. In all likelihood, we'll never see it. :(

I was under the impression that he only worked on those games...not that he was in any position of creative control. If he was, then you are right. He does have a rather impressive resume.

There were OTHER PEOPLE who worked on that game and I'm sure they had just a little something to do with its success.

Nothing's stopping Jaffe from farming GOW3 off to someone else, and keep "executive control" over any proposed game design docs, etc, etc. That way, he doesn't have to burn out his precious creative juices that he so badly needs for his Next Great Thing that he keeps whine-blogging about :rolleyes:

I don't understand why you guys think he holds the key to making g.o.w. 3 ... He admitted before that he had nearly nothing to do with the game's combat system and besides, I think this Balrog guy is going to prove to be more than capable from the looks of g.o.w.2. Jaffe is way too outspoken and overexposed and it'd probably be best if he and the media did speak to each other until he actually releases another title worth talking about.

He came up with all the cool ideas like stripping down armor from earlier Kratos designs, approving monster design (Cyclopes, Centaurs etc.) and so on. I don't believe A BIT that GoW would be as awesome and groundbreaking as it was if not for Jaffe.

Jaffe giving somebody else the design power over GoW3 would probably end much like Deus Ex : Invisible War under Harvey Smith.

Oh well, all I can do is quietly wait for God of War 2 to not disappoint and judging by the E3 trailers and gameplay movies (huge cogs floating on swamps, an armor that reflects medusa's gaze, the mothefucking mother of all medusas etc.)...

At least Molyneux is always trying to innovate and share it in his games. Black & White 2 is actually really fucking good. And Warren Spector is a god, there's a reason people listen when he gets interviewed.
