Dutch Gaming Site Xboxworld (http://www.xboxworld.nl/news/8427/x06-microsoft-kondigt-xbox-live-arcade-titels-aan/) is reporting that the big mystery franchise that Microsoft teased us with is actually...... Doom
Xboxic (http://www.xboxic.com/news/1694)
On the Doom front, all seems glorious: not only will the resolution be upped several times and the sound be in 5.1 Dolby Surround, but it will also include 4 player co-op and on- and offline deathmatch support. A release date was not explicitly mentioned, but dropped hints would suggest it could be out today already.
Update: This is official. The game is on XBLA tonight!

Lumines > Doom
We are hearing all the WONDERFUL games announcements, but XBLA is turning into 3DRealms.
Uh...where are the promised weekly games.
Oh, wait, I'll go back to Time Pilot a real, complex winner.

I wish I had thought a bit longer before posting this. Moments after I posted I realized that XBLA Doomed would have been such a better title.

They weren't. That was only set for that one month, they explicitly said that. It just so happened that after the month ended, they had a few other games ready to go and continued it for a few extra weeks.

I'll mimic my other comments here:
Eh, with coop and deathmatch, I could be convinced to play this if other folk I knew were playing. Brings back good memories. Though I'd hope it would be Doom, Doom II, and all those other nifty official addons.

seriously.... Co-op doom with 4 friends = glorious.
I will always remember coming around a corner, seeing a friend shooting monsters down the hallway, so I fired a rocket at him, missed, and watched as his body got pushed forward into the room full of baddies by the blast and died.
The stream of curses had me laughing for days.

I wouldn't be surprised if they put that on hold during the current Bringing It Home thing they've got going on Marketplace right now. I do recall reading though that when there are updates/new games on XBLA they're going to come out on Wednesdays. Something to do with gamers already being familiar with Wednesdays being new comic day so they'd remember it's new XBLA day as well.

Evil Avatar needs jade green colored name fonts for all you guys.
Doom is a wonderful addition to XBLA and has classic FPS gameplay that you _can_ go back to. (as opposed to many retro games where you ask yourself "why did I ever think this was the s#(t?")
I think we should be a lot more excited for this title than the formatting of the story implies.

They've said they'll release the XBLA games on Wednesdays. Just not EVERY Wednesday. I think people just assumed (without listening to what MS was actually saying), with that one month where it was the case, that we'd be seeing it from then on out. Hell, that may be the case someday. I just don't like people getting disappointed because of their own assumptions.

He'd probably have to pick a more pastel green. Jade may be hard to see on this background. I for one wouldn't mind the colour change (*wink wink* bap).

That would be hilarious, like a color caste system or segregation. But I'm sure the amount of green on this site would kill my retinas.

Doom? Whatever. Whoever cares about Doom when you got Half Life 2, Gears of War and Halo 3 coming up. I was hoping for more Castelvania-esque anouncements (like Parodius or any Capcom, Konami, Sega classic).

I trust wikipedia, and I know we can google it. On July 12 Microsoft promised 50 XBLA games by the end of the year. Since July 12 I count maybe close to ten. This leave 40 games by Dec 31.
There needs to be 2-3 releases coming per week to meet that goal. Anyone think they're going to make it? The wikipedia article doesn't even have 50 future titles mentioned and some of those go well into 2007.
As for Doom. I'd get it for 800 points. Yeah.

I believe that MS meant that there would be 50 total XBLA games by year's end. That still means there's a good-sized gap - they'd need 20 or so over the next three months, I think - but it's not as big as you're making it sound.

Doom co-op would be funny over XBLA. Looking toward the new games though to wow me.
I've got a few other games though i'm looking forward to more on XBLA.

For those of you psyched about the co-op, you do realize that Doom 3 for the Xbox has online (two player, not four) co-op, and is BC, do you not? I love co-op games.
If I bought this, it would be for the multiplayer, because I don't necessarily need four player co-op...two is enough for me.

I'm just surprised that this is their big title. I mean they've got the whole FPS-genre wrapped up. I'd be surprised if a PC-originating FPS DIDN'T come to the X360.
Love the genre, but I love it even more on my PC.

If you're a real DOOM aficionado you'd already know there's tons of open source versions of DOOM with Multiplayer, both Co-op and deathmatch. Geez, my friend has an upgraded graphics version on his modded Xbox. Now if they had something like Dungeon Keeper or Syndicate on XBLA, then I would start to get excited.

That is a good point, there is little to no vertical axis in doom, making it more suitable for a controller than modern FPS games.

but that isn't what you said, nor what you implied. You implied that having doom on 360 suddenly made it possible to play doom on a projector, which isn't even remotely true.
Its just one of the silly console 'benefits' that I see popup in every pc vs. console thread. Curiously enough, people have been driving projectors with computers for a very long time. Before the advent of progressive DVD-players, an HTPC was the best way to drive a projector for DVD watching. In some cases, it still is.
The console people will keep stating that they can play console on bigger screens and from more comfortable furniture than they can play on PC when none of that is due to any real world limitation. It is only true because they choose to limit themselves in that fashion, it is not due to some inherent hardware/software limitation/ability.

Due to the massive amount of development done to the doom source code after it was open sourced, doom is multiplayer capable on damn near any device with a working network interface.

I played the trail to the end and downloaded the full game immediately. Controls were dead on, the nostalgia factor was high, and I'm just surprised how well the game holds up. Tomorrow my brothers and I will be trying some Live Coop. And playing Doom with your own custom soundtracks rocks. A pretty nice surprise since I had no clue it was coming. I gotta say, MS kicked some major ass today.
I'm so on this, I love Doom in all its formats, and deathmatch/co-op over live is a freaking awesome idea.
