Capcom (http://www.capcom.com) has announced today (http://www.capcom.com/news/news.xpml?prid=700063) that they have shipped over 500,000 copies of Dead Rising for the XBox 360. This makes it the fastest selling next generation title from a Japanese publisher to date. Someone paid the statistician extra huh?In preparation for the next generation transition, in 2005 Capcom concentrated on creating titles for foreign markets while seeking to improve its marketing, sales and business operations functions in North America. Dead Rising’s early success is attributable to these changes and Capcom’s foresighted philosophy of embracing next generation development to yield a high quality title with worldwide appeal. As a result, Dead Rising is also the fastest selling next generation title for a Japanese publisher.

Awesome news. With Europe and Japan getting the game soon this could be one of the XBox 360's best selling title to date.

Well that should cement Dead Rising 2, no doubt.

Good for Capcom!

First Xbox 360 title to reach a Million units? (I'm not sure how Oblivion or Ghost Recon sold, but I'm sure they were big sellers.)

So, after lurking for an eternity I had to register. Damnit.

Anyways, this game will probably explode over here in Europe. Most people I know are getting it on the release. I believe it will sell as much here as it did over in the US.

i'm not sure how much it'll explode, but we've already got at least one european ready to buy a shiny new 360 just to play it, and i imagine it'll push a few more 360s as well.

my damn parents are coming just a few days after the release. damnit!

I haven't played this beyond the demo, still need to pick it up. Next week is vacation, I might do a rental first and see how I enjoy it. That and Saints Row. 120 bucks would hurt me otherwise if I'm not overjoyed, compared to 10-12 for two rentals.

Hey now! I never...umm...well...ok...dammit, you got me. So I was going for the high score on Erotica as my first time through the game that is what I ended up getting the most PP for. :D

Sweet jeebus! This is awesome news. Couple this news with the fact that SFII is the best selling Live Arcade title and the conclusion is that the 360 is treating Capcom wll (and vice versa).

does anybody think of capcom as a japanese developer? their titles are westernized from the get go.

Oh, and I only got 200 points for a close-up of Jessie's umm, features.

Oh, I just checked the original article, this news post is inaccurate. They say from a "japanese publisher", not from a japanese developer. Splitting hairs, I suppose, but if you're just going to repeat something from the press release you might as well get it right, right?

Killer app

It's a good game, it's fun, but it's not a killer app.

I think of them more as a Japanese developer making Western games with a Japanese influence. If America were colonized by Japan. Western style with a strong Japanese flavor.

Sure you only get 200 points but 200 times many, many pictures adds up. ;)

This is awesome news. Of course, Dead Rising was released at probably the perfect time for it. Right when no new good games had come out for awhile with little in sight, they drop this. It makes me wonder why more publishers don't time their games like this.

Good news for the 360 and good news for those that own them. When a new IP has such a good showing, there's always the chance it could sway publishers to support more new IPs.

This is where someone is to remind everyone that they wouldn't have had to ship 500000 copies unless the stores weren't selling them like hotcakes. How do you ship more to a store? The store sells out of the product and orders more. They shipped 350k in the first week was it? Can't remember exactly. So shipped 150k in the second week. Those 150k wouldn't have been ordered if stores still had full stocking of the original 350k. Just be happy for Capcom.

Oblivion and GR both already went over 1M worldwide.

Yeah, I know, the whole shipped versus sold debate is as boring as the PC versus console one.

In any case, 350,000 units were shipped in the first week and promptly sold out, hence the additional 150.00.

You hear that? That's the 500,001st copy sold right there (assuming the previous 500,000 copies that were shipped have now been sold).

So I've been on the fence about a 360 for some time now, and this game has me really interested. Unfortunately, I suspect and have heard that it might not be much more than rental-length. I'm sure I'd probably want to continue playing with the zombies for a while in the sandbox after I finished up, but I don't know if this can sell the system for me. I just don't see a lot else out there that piques my interest, I guess. I'm not into Halo, never owned an XBox 180, so if that's all the 360 will offer I guess I should pass.

A $400 console for 6-10 hours of zombie action and, essentially, flash games is what I'm looking at right now. Not to knock XBLA as it seems great, but the games there don't really justify the price of the console to me and its really the only other interest I have in the system at the moment. I just haven't seen any stellar titles aside from DR that make me want to plop down the cash. Maybe Oblivion, but my rig could probably run it well enough if I ever got around to picking it up.

Another thing that I've been wanting to do is upgrade my 21" many years old television to something a little fancier, with the higher bandwidth inputs (this old WEGA only does the old RCA/AV/composites) and right now it looks like Circuit City and/or Best Buy are running a deal on a Samsung 30" widescreen flattube CRT (complete with 2 HDMI, some Components, S-Video, and a composite or two) with an X360 premium for what looks to be a reasonable price. Somebody talk me into/out of a 360!

Sorry about the threadjack. It really is great that this seemingly awesome title (definitely great in concept if nothing else) has shipped/sold so many units.

Forget just 6-10 hours of Dead Rising. That's only if you play the single player once, IMO. I've played this game for countless hours, starting over several times, and even messed around with Infinity Mode some. Even running around at level 50, with the mega man suit and real blaster, I still have a great time killin zombies. Even if I only play for an hour a day, I still have a great time.

Hopefully the sequel will have some multiplayer on Live. Like 8 players + 1000 zombies. When all zombies are dead, the player that killed the most zombies in the most different ways wins.

It's great game, one of the few I've played all the way through lately. Got a better ending than my 15 year old first time through. Sometimes, you just need some zombie killing. Love to get the lawn mower and run them down. Plot was decent too.

I'd like to see me some next-gen Resident Evil action.

I played it for around two weeks and it is easily the most fun I've had on the 360 since Kameo. Got the best ending and opened up infinity mode. Then I was pretty much done. I sold it on Ebay for $51, so I didn't do too bad for an impulse purchase that became a two week rental. When it drops down to $20 or less, though, I'll definitely be adding it to my permanent collection. That will make the total amount I spent on it still under $30, which is just about the perfect price for the game, in my opinion.

I played it quite a bit this weekend. It is fairly well done, few obvious flaws. It does have plenty of replay value, imho, plenty. So much you won't get done the first time you manage to get 72 hour mode finished, there'll be areas/stores you've never even been in after the first time through.

I hate those bastards in the jeep.

Ah, a game I forgot about for 360 that interested me. I'm a sucker for platformers so Kameo seems like an obvious selling point for a 360 for me, even though its received mixed reviews around here.

Hmm, Kameo + Dead Rising + XBLA + excuse to upgrade my TV.. Maybe this Xbox/TV deal will lure me in after all.

To the off-topic forums I go with more inquiries since I should stop jacking this thread. Thanks for the inadvertent reminder about Kameo, EternalGamer.

You can get 1,000 for hot ass Jessie shots, gotta work that camera. Very glad to see this, it's a great game made by one of my favorite developers.

That's what makes it a Japanese title. Adding Erotica to a head smashing Zombie game. It's one of the things I like about Japanese titles.

Sniper rifle + jumping on top of the covered picnic area = dead guys in jeep.
