Anyone want to sell their old PSP? I just saw the system seller I had to have.

It's odd, collections like this really make me want o buy a PSP, even though I own most of those games already. I think I could be quite happy never buying a 'new' PSP game ever.

Seriously that's one fucking great collection there. Straight from the Golden days of EA.

EA publishing something that isn't shitty or from Will Wright AND something of use on the PSP. World is going insane I tell you.

If those are the original PC titles and not the horrible console equivalents...well, U7 is the best game ever made so that would be a crazy boon to the PSP.

I thought EA didn't like the PSP?

They're the shitty console equivalents, right? Wing Commander 1&2 is tempting, but not with a gamepad.

Yeah, those are the shitty SNES equivalents however still any Ultima 7, Syndicate and Wing Commander are better than none!

Funny how PC games had to be dumbed down for consoles since the beginning of the ages... something to wonder about.

I wish people would stop playing with the flame... despite the fact that the 3 games you gave as examples are really good examples....

I dunno... The SNES port of Wing Commander was pretty damn unplayable compared to the original. Unless of course you enjoy flying straight at a fighter at 1000 KPS which appears to be flying at you but never gets any closer while it shoots at your carrier until it's destroyed.....

There's no flame, I'm pretty excited through the roof by this announcement.

However when you compare Ultima 7 PC to Ultima 7 SNES here is what you get:

No party members. No real conversation trees. No sidequests. (All the dungeons, so plenty of exploration, at least). No reagents (learn spells at level up). No fun side-tasks, such as farming, baking bread, etc. In fact, the world isn't nearly as interactive. No Forge of Virtue (or Serpent Isle or Silver Seed, of course). No strategy to combat. It's just hack and slash. Missing lots of the themes and music. It's just a bare-bones ARPG missing everything that made the original so... classic. :/

Pretty bad if you ask me but still this is a MUST buy. It's FOURTEEN CLASSICAL HITS for Christ sake.

Wow - and I was seriously considering Ebaying my PSP (provided I can find the charging cord, anyway). When clicking on the game Gamestop also recommends Metal Slug Anthology 1, 2, X, 3, 4 and 5 - also featuring two-player support via wireless multiplayer! The PSP a paperweight no longer?!

... U7 is the best game ever made...

QFT

Boo to the SNES version though. I remember going into a house in Trinsic and going down into a basement and getting killed by a rat on the SNES version. Then I thought ... basement... rat killing me... in town??? THIS is not the same game at all.

Wing Commander without a joystick.
Syndicate without a mouse.
Ultima 7 without most of what makes Ultima fun, imho.

PC games ported to console used to have to be dumbed down because consoles had miniscule storage capabilities and very little memory. That is no longer the case, and with the advent of USB support they really should no longer be limited to specialized controllers.

Most of the dumbing down in Oblivion seemed targeted at dealing with lower resolution displays that wouldn't clearly display text that could easily be read on a pc display and dealing without having a mouse. While that was somewhat annoying for a PC user to deal with, at least all of the gameplay came through intact.

This should be the console generation that puts an end to dumbing down. Lets hope they do.

You're all missing Mutant League Football. Not many football games have a "kill the ref" play.

I second the Mutant League comment above, but also find this funny:

* Road Rash: Blow opponenets off the backroads in California's most illegal, unofficial and dangerous race.

* Road Rash II: Road racing isn't just a sport. It's an attitude! Cruising cross country just got a lot harier.

* Road Rash III: Keep an eye out for wildlife and other hazards as you engage in a 150-MPH bike brawl.

or

1 - Illegal and Dangerous
2 - Attitude and a lot harier
3 - Watch out for ... wildlife?

Yeah, but what about the original System Shock...that would be phenomenal. It makes me sick that they would release this collection including U7...they didn't seem to care about the series after that...it would really be there style to release the snes ports...but wouldn;'t that logically have them releasing for nintendo's system?

They really need to release Ultima Underworld I and II and System Shock on the DS!!!!

Haunting starring Polterguy was my favorite game as a child. I definitely need to pick this up. Haven't touched my PSP in months.

EA no longer wants to support PSP with original titles, so they shovel everything they have at it?

Shovelware? Cash-In?

What happened to the No Ports PSP policy?

That's a really good idea, especially considering the control scheme of those games. The fact that System Shock had some kind of "lower screen" where you used items and controlled the character... It would be perfect!!!!

That WAS an awesome game. Very inventive for the time, too.

Someone should update the original post to alert us that they are nothing more than SNES ROMs. If they were PC ports of Ultima and Wing Commander, I would have been interested. As ROMs, I'll pass.

For those who aren't aware, you can run SNES ROMs on a PSP already using an emulator. You can also run SNES ROMs on a multitude of other devices including laptops (http://www.zsnes.com/), Pocket PCs (http://www.pocketsnes.net/), Palm PDAs (http://www.palmsource.com/interests/emulators/#3) and the GPX2 (http://www.gp2x.com/), which can even be hooked up to your TV.

As Kamalot said, Ultima and Wing Commander PC ports would have been sweet. Along with the PC version of Road Rash...
I can already play the SNES roms on many devices I own.

Oh well, maybe by some miracle they will mix SNES roms with PC versions.

I am in LOVE with this idea!

I have been trying throughout the years to find the perfect environment to play these classic games. If I could get them all working on my PC, I'm not sure I would want to go with it, since the tech is so aged...but on the DS, it would be really tight.

UW has an inventory sidebar that is always on...it could easily go to the bottom screen.

If I remember, Ultima Underworld's 3D screen was about the same resolution as the DS's screen, right?

I had shittons fo funs with the SNES port of Wing Commander.

I really don't know why they picked Black Gate though. The SNES port of that was horrendous.

If they wanted to do an Ultima game, they should've used the port of False Prophet. That one was awesome. I prefer it over the PC version in fact, because the interface was a lot better.

Agreed. EA rapes other companies out of their IP, quashes creativity, ruins franchises and names like Ultima, then spits out crappy ports years later to cash in.

No thanks EA is rich enough. They can get my money when they start to EARN it.
