Earlier this year, Apple released Boot Camp, a new program for Intel based Mac computers that allowed people to run Windows XP and all of its applications, including games. While people are still debating how these developments will affect making native Mac OS games, a company called TransGaming has announced plans to release a new game development tool caled Cider which they claim will allow any PC developer to quickly port Windows XP games to run on the Mac. FiringSquad got in touch with TransGaming's president and CEO Vikas Gupta (http://www.firingsquad.com/news/newsarticle.asp?searchid=11696) to find out more about their plans for Cider. Here is a snip:
FiringSquad: Do the PC games ported by Cider run as well on the Mac as they do on the PC in terms of frame rate?

Vikas Gupta: We spend a considerable amount of time on the optimization of our technology to ensure analogous performance. Games should be running at equivalent rates on Mac and there should be no difference in frame rates. Of course, this is also contingent upon the system specifications but most of Mac line of products are quite powerful so we don't anticipate any performance disparity.

Interesting. These people also made "Cedega" The Linux software which allowed users of Linux to run Windows specific Games on Linux. I really want to try this out and see how it works.

If Cider is anything in terms of quality as Cedega, I would not count on it making any difference. Plus TransGaming's business methods are..uh...debatable.
