And of course, I'm sure you'll be able to get patches online to get the bonus game content.

The Dark Messiah demo made me cry...My computer is no longer the bomb. Hopefully it will run NWN2

Not bad considering the price tag.

I'm liking the NWN2 CE.

Dark Messiah I may go cheap on and get the regular edition. Unless, of course, they go all fuckassed with it and the only way to get it on DVD is to cough up for the CE, as seems to be the SOP lately. >=[

I've never been a CE guy, I just really don't have a need for cloth maps, trading cards, pewter figurines, and crap of that ilk. Somehow I missed out on the "collecting" aspect of geekdom. The weapons, documentary, and soundtrack included with the Dark Messiah CE are good examples of the things that would have me buying a Collector's Edition. I'd like to see more CE's of that nature in the future.

Does anyone else get turned off by the idea of exclusive in-game content? Maps and manuals and physical stuff is great, but having the game code and not putting it in the standard edition just feels like a total shaft.

Do you really want to pay 10 bucks for a single multiplayer skin and 4 singleplayer weapons?

It'll be hacked and released before the game even hits store shelves.

Too true.

Too short.

Content like maps and weapons should be free, or made available at a later date with no cost, so all those people who shelled out for the collector's edition can feel good about themselves. Collector's Editions of games should include goodies like art books of the game, concept art, etc, but not some cheap b/w prints, or a unique box to house the game? Selling a little bit of extra content as a "Collector's Edition" is a sham.

Weapons as a collectors only? wtf? That IS a total shaft.
It's not like the extra code cost them anything.
The game is focused around combat, so not having 4 weapons changes the game. They should have made some other extra content that did not affect the gameplay (like the pet in WOW or something).

Baldur's Gate 2 and Icewind Dale series say hi - exclusive, pre-order or CE weapons.

I don't see how you can say that. They may just look different.

Assuming NWN2 comes with that set of construction tools everyone is so excited about (myself included), wouldn't people just be able to make these weapons themselves?

That special feat is extremly cheap. Hopefully multiplayer servers will be able to turn it off.

BG2 and ID are different games, though. They've got a bazillion weapons already, so a couple extra are no great shakes. You could also download those pre-order disks for free the day they came out. ;)

How many weapons are in this one? The demo doesn't leave me thinking it is near as many as you'll find in bg2/id.

beware the flame.

Oh, and cloth maps for the win. I wish every RPG came with them.

True. If so I guess it's closer to being ok.

If it indeed affect gameplay the original standard version somehow becomes a b-version. Imagine if the theaters did something like this.. see Superman for 20$, but pay 25$ and you get some extra cool effects! It makes everyone buying the standard version feel cheated or like they are missing something. I think it is too litte extra money earned, compared to the negative vibe surrounding the whole idea. But that is just my opinion. I feel tempted to just buy the standard and hack it (when I can) to get the extra stuff.

Back in the day I bought Ultima III: Exodus for the C64. It came with a beautiful cloth map, a spell book, a tourists guide and key-shortcut foldout. Man, those were the days.

I like physical bonus items like maps and coins and Ankhs. virtual bonus items can be cool (like an exclusive pet in a MMO, where you can show it off) or lame (like the ones in these two games).

Sigh. I so wanted that baby Murlok pet from the Wow convention... :'(

I forgot to mention that one the map and two books, clues to the moongates and hints for the game were written all over them in the runic alaphabet. Deciphering them was part of the fun.

I dedicate this post to GrinR.

I remember when stuff like this game in the NORMAL edition of the game. Nowadays we just get a 3 page manual and some paper sleeves. Hmmm, no wonder I don't buy PC games anymore.

This just smacks too much of 'diminished' product rather than just 'cool extra content'. A hearty fuck you to whoever thought this up.
