It is being reported that Relic's World War 2 RTS, Company of Heroes (http://www.companyofheroesgame.com) has gone gold.

Also mentioned today, the Multiplayer Beta will continue to allow for further tuning of the matchmaking service, as well as show off all the balance and client side changes that have been completed. Expect a new open beta client (and patch) soon.

I played the MP demo of this and while it looks great, there is something missing for me. Maybe the fact that I cannot share units with my allies or be able to share a base even.

I think really Soldiers Heroes of WWII raised the bar so high, that this game seems mediocre. Sure in Soldiers you don't control large armies, but the detail to destruction and action is so well done, Company of Heroes just seems like a cheap thrill.

Where is the Link to the "gone gold" press? I didn't find it?

Been looking forward to this for a while, though DeadPixel's statement gives me a little pause. Still, after the godly greatness of Dawn of war, I am Relic's bitch and will buy Company of Heroes regardless, I'm sure. :p

My complete and utter disdain for all things World War II has me passing up what many are telling me is a great game. I just can't do it, I feel like I've been done a tour of duty myself over the course of nearly a decade of being bludgeoned with that setting. I'll have to give Relic my money for the upcoming DoW expansion instead, as regardless of setting, they make a damn fine RTS.

Oh... October PC Gamer (which has mailed to subscribers) has an exclusive demo that includes the first mission.

I feel the same about the sharing issues Dead Pixel's mentioned about sharing structures. You can, however, have team mates repair each other's equipment, and build observation posts on points that have been captured by allies (as the increase resources for the entire team). I'd very much like to see them patch in more teamwork type objectives.

Sure I'm the biggest Relic fanboy in existence, but this has all the earmarks of being their best RTS. To quote PC Gamer's Dan Stapleton on CoH "Not just the greatest WWII RTS ever, but one of the greatest RTS games ever, period."

Is this like The Outfit, only as a pc game with all that entails?

The Outfit was like GI Joe meets the A-team.

Company of Heroes is like Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, A Bridge to Far, The Longest Day, with a bit of gameplay realism in it.

So Company of Heroes is a better game (based on the beta demo) than the Outfit?

They're not really on the same level, and are two totally different types of games.

I had fun with The Outfit, like ok sex. Company of Heroes on the other hand is what I'd imagine a hedonistic orgy that goes on for days ( in which no one gets pregnant or contracts an STD) would be like.

Oh, now seeing info saying CoH is out on the 14th.

Been playing this beta demo myself.

Great, great game. The graphics and sound give a sense of immersion that no other WW2 setting game has done before.

I do consider this similar in many ways to Soldiers: Heroes of WW2. Except this has better graphics and it's more of a click fest, since you end up clicking all over the damn map during a heated confrontation (or several at once). CoH tends to lean more toward the action side of an RTS, than strategy, though. Maybe the single player game will be more strategy oriented, but playing against humans will work your brain and fingers to the core and bone, respectively.
