This one's been all over the net by now (including mentioned on here, I think), but in case you guys didn't catch it this weekend, Joystiq is reporting on (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/14/mega-man-x-and-x2-at-the-same-time/) a clip of a gamer playing Mega Man X and Mega Man X-2 with only one controller.

The TAS community -- that's "Tool-Assisted Speedruns" -- is not about showing off, but rather, creating "movies that are beautiful to watch." Know that this clip was recorded using a controller wired into two SNES emulators and that the player used features like slow-motion and savestates to cast the illusion of a seamless playthrough in real time. So while it's not proof that an 'unassisted' gamer could play two different games with one controller, by exploiting emulation tools, the creator does show that two games can be played successfully using one set of button inputs, and without modifying the games.

A friend and I watched this whole thing last night and just marvelled at it. It's really just amazing to watch. It also TOTALLY gave me the inkling to play some Mega Man X -- going to borrow a friend's copy of the X Collection later this week. Fun stuff.

haha, so old!

I go to school with the man who made it, (at the Univeristy of Waterloo) and he was showing it off in the student lounge... last september! I got the vid off of him right then and there and watched it about three times.

It's pretty awesome though. You can actually queue up the same SNES movie file to play each game separately.

Also, I highly reccomend going to the original site (http://tasvideos.org/) this was posted on and downloading the high quality video using BitTorrent. (a mere 180MB!)

While you're there, check out... well, everything. The Sonic 3 & Knuckles speedrun is a thing of beauty.

thats the problem with these videos (dont get me wrong, i love the beauty of them) but it makes me think....."hey, I could do that!"(even though i know its tool assisted) then i go pick up the game....and boy am i wrong...

(loved the video though, i watched it alst night as well)

Dude! Get a hold of him and make him call into a live ep. of the podcast. I'd love to talk with him. :)

I'm definitely gonna check out more vis on that site from your recommendation, markster

Unfortunately, I don't really know him too well, beyond an occasional word with him between classes when he's working on a new speedrun. (Or crazy glitch-run, or whatever!)

But, I'll try to pass the word around about the invite.
