According to this Reuters (http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=technologyNews&storyID=2006-08-14T060429Z_01_N11178253_RTRUKOC_0_US-LIFE-SHATNER-STARTREK.xml&src=081406_0844_ARTICLE_PROMO_also_on_reuters) article (the photo appears to be legit), TJ Hooker himself hopes lending his voice to the game will help keep the ailing Star Trek franchise alive.

Shatner, who said he doesn't play video games but has a grandson who is keen to teach him, hopes the medium can keep the "Star Trek" flame burning.

"I couldn't imagine someone else playing Captain Kirk, even in a video game, so I kind of got a little territorial," he said.

William Shatner is the Man.

I don't care what anyone says Shatner's Kirk is the best ST character ever created and he lives it to the full. Long live the Shatner!

Wished they needed him for STO, but the timeframe is so goofed :(
And I agree Gunny, Shatner's the best.

Sazime, you beat me to the link, which I recommend to everyone, as it happens to be highly illogical. *raises eyebrow*

As for the "ailing Star Trek franchise" comment, I would be remiss to not mention Rick Berman's role in modern day suckage. I'll leave it to someone else to go into the full lenght rant.

As a non trek nerd, but fan of Star Trek, could someone tell me who Rick Berman is?

I have an anti-Berman buddy. I'll get right on that.

Rick Berman is the sucktacular asshat who has been running the Star Trek franchise into the ground since Roddenberry died.

I motion that William Shatner become the new fixation of the internet. He has all traits, and I can see him topping the Hoff.

I visited the Star Trek Experience in Vegas this past weekend and I have to give it to them. They created a really cool set of the Enterprise that you actually get to walk in while watching the live actors perform. Sure the actual ride at the end is nice, but being on the deck of the Enterprise kinda took me away into my childhood.

The Borg ride was not as good, but still worth the visit.

Don't forget he had help, though... Braga's fascination with the catsuit-clad hotties in order to cater to the 13 year olds learning to jerk off didn't help either.

Anything that hurts the Hoff helps the world.

Well, considering that the only two ST series worth watching are TNG and DS9, I can't say I hate Berman. Their awesomeness cannot be tarnished even by the massive suckage of Voyager and Enterprise.

Also, DENNY CRANE (http://z.about.com/d/tvcomedies/1/0/q/-/-/-/denny_crane.jpg)!

**** SPOILER WARNING (highlight to read) ****
I know, it's not a big spoiler, but I didn't know nuthin' about it when I saw it, and it went from 'please stand in this line for cheesy ride' to 'OMFG, HOW DID THEY DO THAT???' That was probably the most impressed I have ever been at any amusement park, ever.

Suffice it to say, if you are in Las Vegas, and you're a Star Trek fan, you really owe it to yourself to go get on that ride. Better yet, go online shopping for a two-for-one ticket and take someone with you; full-price isn't worth it, but half-price sure is.

Shatner is actually a good actor, too...not just a one-hit hack. He is the man.

TNG and DS9 were great because Moore and Pillar were in the house at that time. Once Moore realized Voyager was out of his ability to control in any way, shape, or form, he ditched and the vicious spiral began (I'm not sure what Pillar was doing at this time).

Enterprise, OTOH, I'm not willing to totally condemn. Berman/Braga of course put the bone to it as they are wont to without the likes of Moore to keep things on track, but at least when Manny Coto came on in S3 things started clicking real good, and S4 was, IMHO, the best Trek we'd seen since DS9 ended.
