Thanks to the gossip kings at Joystiq (http://joystiq.com) for the tip. Sony told GamesIndustry who told Joystiq... (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/14/psp-price-cut-rumor-is-squashed/)
A Sony UK rep has informed GamesIndustry.biz that despite rumors of a planned PSP price cut, nothing like that is in the plans. Of course, the site fails to name the rep or give further details, so we'll still have to keep our eyes and ears peeled to the possible news of a cost reduction.
If you'd prefer, you can think about it as a $50 price INCREASE from last week's drop.

No biggie, $150 was still too much for a proprietary format movie player with just a few good games, IMO.

Just to state the obvious here, it would be a rather bad idea to confirm a price drop this far out from the Holidays. The PSP may not be raking in cash like the DS Lite is, but it's still moving 150K+/mo. To announce that they're dropping the price would mean people start holding off on buying one until the price actually does drop.
Just sayin'.

That's true, but I guess that's the difference between a press release and an accidental slip. It's not like us to wait until things are official though, so until further notice, I'll keep checking the writing on bathroom stalls and such for updates.

Oh, absolutely. And really, analyst predictions are wrong far, far more often than they're right (which is, uh, ironic, I guess given their title), so it's always best to take what they say with a grain of salt. Still, it would make sense to drop things at least a little given that the PSP will have been out for more than a year and a half.
$150 + Killzone + Vice City Stories + MoH: Heroes = A significantly more attractive prospect.
