Games Are Fun has new movies (http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=6693) of the amazing-looking Final Fantasy III for the Nintendo DS. They show how the game is played with the stylus and show off an excellent level of detail and 3D polish.

I highly suggest watching the one called "Town" to see the 3d town, complete with zooming camera. Is anyone else looking forward to this as much as I am?

You betcha. The only FF game I haven't played redone in what looks to be very snazzy 3D. I'm not usually for 3D remakes of 2D games, but I like what I'm seeing here.

Edit: FFIII has the Job system?! Woo hoo! My favourite part of Tactics and FFV is the job system. Now my enthusiasm is +2!

Where did you preorder from? I know my local EB doesn't even have it in their computer yet... grr...

I've seen only still screenshots up to this point. I'm definately picking this one up, if for no other reason than because I was so horribly dissapointed with that other RPG that came out for it, I can't recall it's name off the top of my head. The one where you lose HP while running. You know which one I'm talking about.

Square has put so much spit and polish into this one that it'd better be a rock solid title, and if the looks are any indication, it already is. My only concern is that I'm really going to enjoy this one only to find it shorter than I expected. Guess we'll find out when the launch it in the US. Which reminds me, what is the US launch date for this title?

Edit: Typo. (cries)

Hmm, I don't particularly like the way the battles look just because the enemies don't have death animations and the characters aren't actually making contact with the monsters, but other than that it looks pretty cool. I too am pumped for the job system!!

That's weird, man. My preorder is at Gamestop, and I put it in like 2 months ago.

That's not Lunar, is it? I loved the Playstation versions of Lunar, but I heard nothing but bad things about this Lunar game. Yikes.

I'm going to have to go back to EB soon and pester them about FFIII. I know I'd asked about FFVI for the GBA (when is that coming out, anyway?) and that wasn't in the system, but I might not have asked about FFIII recently. Granted, it's nice to know that I haven't really been to the EB where I actually preorder stuff in a while. No wonder my bank account is actually in the black for once.

Indeed! In fact Final Fantasy III was the very game that the job system was created for, so in essence you'll be using the very first job system with a few balance tweeks so there won't be parties of all Ninjas like the original version.

I hope you don't have to use the stylus.

I really think that DS games over-do it when its really not always optimal or necessary... and in this I don't really see it. looks like more of a chore than just using the old d-pad.

I'll agree that using it to move around the screen is a bit pointless, but for combat and going through menus I think the stylus is going to be quite convenient.

GameCrazy. I traded my PSP for a DS a few months ago and I couldn't be happier. Then I get a FF I haven't ever played all souped up. Awesome!!!

Ah, I should read a little more closely next time...

From the link:
Note that though the player is controlling the game with the stylus in these vids, you won't be forced to play that way. You can still use the good ol' d-pad and A & B buttons if you like.

Dang, when they said stylus control, they meant it. :p Glad you can use the regular controls if you choose.

Meh, they could have at least had the characters move in to attack ala Chrono Cross or FFX.

I'll be getting it, need to get some more use out of my DS Clunkomatic.

I could not be looking forward to this one any more. Much as I want FFXII, I honestly think I'm even more excited about FFIII. I still shudder at how many people are going to be shocked this isn't FFVI though.

Deathbane: Is this not consistent with most the FF line, especially the older games?

Very excited for this. Finally the last FF not released in the U.S.! And once this and the GBA FFVI port are out, every Final Fantasy up to VI will be available for play on the DS.

It is. However, those were all 2D. FF7 onward had the characters actually moving in to the target to attack where appropriate. I would think a 3D remake would warrant the change. Kind of silly to update to the nice 3D models and then keep everyone in very strict battle lines. :p

There is no official release date. The last official word was September, but then GameStop started listing it November 1. I think it's somewhat unlikely Square would release 2 big FF titles on the same date, unless they're stupid (they probably are).

Well, that website that has the YouTube videos says August for Japan and November for North America. I still haven't picked up FFIV for the GBA. I'll grab FFIII sometime, but FFXII will be the game for me this fall, I think. It looks phenomenal, and though my anticipation died for it about a year and a half ago, I think it's starting to rekindle. It's been so long since I played a NEW FF game. And I wouldn't touch XI with a ten-foot pole.

FFIII was the first game to use the job system (that I'm aware of). It started it all!

This game has me incredibly excited, and I've played through it before ^_^.

So, if this is below traditional DS standards, as you suggest, most DS games look even better! Cool!

Can you provide links to the Dragon Quest game?

I'm finally getting back into FFIV on the GBA after being stuck at the stupid magnetic mine dungeon for far too long. I don't recall the game being as annoying in that respect when I played through it MANY years ago on the SNES. I'll probably polish off the game in a few weeks and then I'll be ready for a new portable FF game. I'm incredibly excited about FFXII as I've been thirsting for a FF game to play on the PS2. I've started a bunch of other RPG's on the system over the past few months but just haven't had the patience or tenacity to actually complete any of them. FFXII looks like it might be the next console RPG that I'll actually finish.

Speaking of an overloaded FF fall, I still haven't heard anything about when FFV and VI are going to be released on the GBA. I've got my SNES hooked up and am very tempted to actually sit down and finish FFVI as I never did finish it 10 years ago when I spent a summer playing it. Oh, those were the days. I just don't want to get half through the game and then have the portable version come out. The upside of these portable RPGs is that I actually can take them to work and play them when I do an overnight shift or have a bit of free time, unlike the console versions.

Sigh.

The only game he could be talking about is Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime. There is no other Dragon Quest planned for DS yet. Ah, wait. There is Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker, but that has no screenshots yet. No, I'm sorry, this troll has no precarious perch to stand on. Seriously, your eyes are broken IRONGUSTAV. Nothing this ambitious has been done on DS, and I gotta say its going to a while before someone else does. The attention to detail is un-freaking-believable. Most people would have been happy with a nice little pseudo-3D remake when they announced it, but I mean you're walking through a dungeon and the little frogs "croak" at you! SE did not have to put all this time into this, but they did and this could end up finally being the killer app which DS never really had. I definately didn't expect that at all, when I heard FFIII announced. Man, I'm sorry...I can't help but gush about this game. Especially so soon after seeing those movies. Seriously, they need a warning about those things -> "MAY CAUSE UNBRIDLED EXCITEMENT AND RABID FANBOYISM".

*I like big Butz and I cannot lie...*

Sorry...

And I just picked up Final Fantasy Legend 2 the other day for the original Gameboy. Thankfully my GBplayer on the Cube works and I can play it on that. I recall playing it ages ago and it was quite interesting. I think I beat all of the GB FF's when the original Gameboy was a model of sleek sophistication and technological prowess.

I'm definitely looking forward to this game. I never really got into the Final Fantasy games - the most time I've spent with any of them was when I borrowed one of the Gameboy ones from a friend. I'm thinking about picking up this one along with I, III, IV, V, and VI on the GBA.

Hell I'll probably buy them all and then barely touch them. :(
