This is a nice thing for a company to do.
Host a tournament where if you win, you then get to see the next version of the game you obviously like. As long as it remains without a fee it’s a great idea.
I hope this is not the last time something like this is done on Live.
I'd tend to agree with you, but millions of Halo and Halo 2 fans would beg to differ, i'm sure.
they are entiteld to their opinion ^^. i played halo on my xbox and it was nice, but i havent played a single shooter on a console where the aiming didnt annoy me. i feel always gimped compared to mouse&keyboard.
Congratulations, you've just killed this thread. And with only 16 posts to your name as well.
i have been here since ign took over ve3d, but i mostly read ;)
once in a while though i feel the need to expose myself to the harsh environments of the EA forums

I feel sorry for them. Comparing halo/halo2 on a console to a good PC FPS is like comparing masturbation to sex.
Sure, they're having fun, but they could be having more fun. :p
please dont flame my name ;/ you make me sad QQ
when i made my first eu daoc beta character i was watching trigun and it stuck with me since then ^^
here is a selection of other names i use in games for your critical appraisal:
kettricken (farseer series), eskandar (my name in pharsy? (persian)), surly (malazan series), c0m3d14n (for shooters ^^ from watchmen) :P

I think partly they're referring to the fact that most people type relatively well on this forum, with a lack of smiley faces, etc.

i think your wrong ^^ they are just using the basic taktik of making fun of someones name because of lack of an alternative ;)
besides im no natural speaker and addicted to put a smiley in at least every second sentence. also i consider myself a master debater with legendary typing skillz! ^^

Have you ever BEEN to a game studio? It smells funny, there are D&D figurines everywhere, and everyone - I kid you not - is a mindless, apathetic, computer-zombie with carbonated sugar and taurine for a brain. If you win this tournament and go to to see the game, you'll see half a level -probably something that hasn't been polished or finalized - and everyone who sees it will be all like "this game sucks because that 5% of the game I saw wasn't done so the whole game must be crap, blah blah blah!" With extra "blah" sauce. It happens all the time, every day, at game studios around the universe.
Either that or you will have a nerd-gasm and it will blow everyone's minds. I'm just sayin'... either way it's gonna get ugly. I'll be extremely surprised and shocked if the term "halfway decent" is ever used to describe the experience.
Stop looking at my post already.

CoD2 has some pretty fucking solid controls on the 360... I'm an old school PC FPS fan but I'm definitely getting used to playing them on consoles.

How was Call of Duty 2 anyway? I hear the reviews were good, but looking at some videos bored the crap out of me. It looked like the same WWII game I've played a half dozen times before. Thoughts?
And what are the chances of the 360 version dropping in price by Christmas? Paying a premium price tag for a game that has been out for 9 months is not something I'm willing to do.
How about shooter where it's almost impossible to die because your health regenerates in a matter of seconds = blah.
IDDQD yes, by default no.
I suppose I could have had some setting wrong, it's almost to asinine to be true and I wasn't interested in playing more than 30 minutes.

And what do you mean, "the harsh environments of the EA forums"? We're a wonderful, likable group of fun-loving individuals who all agree completely on every topic and never make disturbing comments about a person's love of goat sex.

cod2 imho is the best ww2 shooter yet.
the graphics although not up to say a quake4 or halflife2 are a big step up on cod1.
the healthup system seems weird at first but grows on you.
i watched some kids playing on the xbox 360 demo at walmart and although i could of whipped them with my loser leet skilz they seemed to have no problems aiming with the controller.

I've always found shooters to control quite well on console. I do still prefer to play with a mouse and keyboard but its never stopped me or even hindered my enjoyment of a console shooter. Difficulties are generally tuned to the control style and online everyone else is using the same controller I am so what difference does it really make?

I really missed the point I should have made there. DoD:S is ten times better than any CoD game will ever be.
the healthup system seems weird at first but grows on you.
So that is the case. Do they provide infinite health cause most console gamers are impatient and simplistic or because the control input makes it nigh impossible? Either way, they should have changed it for the PC version.
Hmm, that came off sounding more inflammatory than I intentioned.

actually DJCyto the point you should make is that dod:strike has 10 times the wasted potential of cod;)

didnt take it that way.
i actually found it refreshing having to use tactics[run+gun=death] and not having to pickup health paks.
Middle of firefight, running low on health, duck behind rock till health is full, jump back in firefight, repeat until section is clear.
Don't know, didn't click with me. I certainly wouldn't mind a change from health packs, but I don't think doing away with health is the answer.

Health pack is stupid, but health station or med camp is not. If Call of Duty really goes for the authenticity, health station is the way to be.

actually if you get shot you die completely[groove games anyone] would be more authentic, but what a sucky singleplayer game that would make;)
got to remember its about fun and realism only to the point it doesnt interfer with the fun factor.

"How about shooter where it's almost impossible to die because your health regenerates in a matter of seconds = blah."
If you play on veteran it's impossible to NOT die lol. I say good riddance to health packs.. too often in games I have trouble getting past a section because I wasn't able to get there with enough health. I don't think that I should be punished for a previous section that I completed in a level, I want to take each new group of enemies as a new challenge. Whether you like Prey's death system or not, you have to admit that playing a minigame is much more entertaining than staring at a game over/load screen.
On the development side of things, you have to imagine that it's much easier to make sure that each enemy encounter is fun and challenging because every player is going to start at ground zero at the beginning of it. In a game like Half Life 2 you have to be concerned about whether a player will have enough health to get past the next gameplay sequence, so you end up tossing crazy amounts of ammo and health at them anyway. Or making a certain gameplay section easier than it could be, which sucks even more.
I think that a game like Dead Rising would be much more fun with a Halo/COD2-like health system because you could make the zombies much more aggressive and keep the player focused on surviving each enemy encounter rather than getting down to 1 health and having to run around finding a pickup or a save point.
"If Call of Duty really goes for the authenticity"
I think that the CoD series definitely has an element of believability but I think the focus is on fast paced action rather than true realism. A game series like Rainbow Six, SWAT or Ghost Recon is much more focused on trying to be tactical and realistic than the CoD games are.

I have found that people who have played it on the 360 love it, and that people who have played it on the PC hate it. Not to say that one version is better then the other, just a preference matter by the type of player. I thought it was trash, and an insult to the far superior original.

I played it on PC first and loved it. CoD1 had some excellent levels and some pretty cheesy levels (the dam, the ship, pretty much every british level)... but I think that CoD2 took the american levels from the first and made the whole game have that cool, action feel. You can say that you played it on PC and hated it but don't make broad generalizations about everybody playing on PC hating it.

You're on crack...I LOVED the PC version. All of my friends liked it on the PC more siting poor controls as the main difference. (gee imagine that with an FPS on a console).
Maybe you know one person who liked the console better because their PC had weak hardware but rest assured the MASSIVE PC FPS community stuck by the trusted mouse and keyboard.

I responded by pointing out that PC players in fact did like it... :D
But 2/3 of your post was stating the PC version is better. You can think the game's bad and think it's better on the PC at the same time, thus the confusion and the spark of a silly and non-fulfilling series of posts. My apologies for perpetuating it :D .

Keep trying junior. Next I'll post reviews and scores of the game from PC gaming review sites. You'll find that it was well received by PC gamers.

No, you clearly said they liked the game MORE on the PC, not that they liked it. Once again, this does not change my argument. I have never anywhere stated that no one likes this game on the PC. I made a generalized comment based on what I have found. Take the following exchange into hand (yes, I realize this did not actually happen. I am turning the table around):
Assassin: I have found that people seem to really like the PC version of CoD 2.
me: What are you, retarded!? Me and some of my friends hated it! This PROVES you are wrong!
In actuality, no it doesn't. This may add a little weight to one side of the arguement, but it does not change your personal findings on the matter. You are trying, and failing, to do the same thing to me. Do you not understand that your personal findings are no more valid then mine? And what is up with you being a giant fucking asshole about it?
