Next Generation (http://www.next-gen.biz) is reporting that Capcom's Q1 profits are up an impressive 33%!

Check out the details here (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3611&Itemid=2).

Capcom today announced its first fiscal quarter results, exhibiting a 33 percent year-over-year increase in profits, thanks in part to cost-efficient portable game development.

Net income for the quarter ended June 30 was 808 million yen ($7 million), versus 608 million yen ($5.3 million) for the same quarter a year ago. Although profits were up, net sales decreased for the quarter, from 11.4 billion yen ($99 million) to 10.6 billion yen ($92 million).
The stellar showing so far of Dead Rising is only going to add to their coffers.

Is the showing stellar or is the game going to be another sales bomb a la Psychonauts :(

Going by the fact that the Best Buy I got mine at was sold out of all 10 copies they ordered after 15 minutes, I'd say no!

Capcom deserves all the success, and more. I've been impressed by their efforts in the last few years, both when it comes to creating amazing blockbuster games (Resident Evil 4) and a lot of genuinely fun and creative titles (like Phoenix Wright).

Psychonauts was an extremely abstract game, and one part of the dying platformer genre as well. I think an action game about killing a shitload of Zombies will be much more successful.

Maybe they won't turn there back on MS this round. I mean Dino Crisis 3.

Long story short, I thought I had pre ordered Dead Rising, and it turns out I forgot to, and it is extremely hard to find where I live (Vancouver BC). All EB 10 EB stores in the area sold all of their copies just filling thier pre orders, and are taking pre orders for the next shipment as well. All other stores I called (Best Buy, Future Shop) either had not gotten their shipment, or had sold out already.

The game is selling like crazy here, I had no idea it would be this popular, but apperantly, people like smashin them some zombies.

Now fair doos they might have just been organised like a beehive this year but perhaps the fact profits are up with sales down means this new generation isn't so obscenely expensive after all?

I picked up the last copy at my Gamestop, so I'd say its selling well. Capcom has made some of the best games over the years, I hope they continue to do great!

Yeah, gamestop/ebgames site reports no copies in stock in the local bay area, it must be doing well. Compusa said on their site that they weren't selling it in the stores, only online, but I happened to find a copy there, thankfully. I think I might be done shopping at EBgames and gamestop...attitude and weak selection.

Next you'll be telling me that the oil companies profits are only coincidental to the sharp increase in the cost of a barrel of oil.

Given the 360's current lineup, the love of zombie smashing, the closeness to that certain movie it's not based on, and so forth... I don't see how this game wouldn't sell. Still, it's doing better than I expected.

I have to admit, I wasn't really paying too much attention to this game until recently, as I tend to not want to get my hopes up these days...but a couple of weeks ago I suddenly really wanted to watch Dawn of the Dead...it so got me excited for this game. And then the demo came out...and now I own it...still haven't opened it yet, though.

I suggest reading the article, I didn't see them attribute profits to next-gen systems, the profits are comming from quite the opposite direction.

I dont even think Capcom has a 360 game out minus Dead Rising.

Street Fighter has to help though.

Dead Rising hurts because, it's so close to triple-A but, just misses the mark. The save system with a single slot is the single worst thing. The weapons breakage is over the top. Other than that, I enjoy it. It's amazing the number of Zombies they get on screen. I think it seems very re-playable too.
