View Full Version : Defcon Gameplay Footage
Defcon, the new game from Introversion (of Uplink (http://www.uplink.co.uk/) fame), is supposed to be a slow-burning tactical 'electronic boardgame' wherein gamers play out a scenario of global thermonuclear war. It is inspired by the classic movie WarGames (http://imdb.com/title/tt0086567/).
The videos (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3152723&type=game&sec=VIDEOS) show the global map UI similar to Uplink, in various stages of the game (and threat levels).
As a huge fan of both Uplink and WarGames, I personally can't wait to try this. In the past people have said they might feel weird about playing such a game, what are your thoughts now?

That's pretty sweet looking, I especially like the soundtrack, sounds like Brian Eno or something.

Reminds be of a game I played ages ago, in the 80's that was very Wargames-ish.. 'Twas Nato vs the Warsaw Pact - might of been Sid Mieir's Nato Commander, but Mobygames tells me that was Apple II, Atari and Commodore 64 only, and I never owned any of those systems (Maybe Moby just doesn't remember the Amstrad)

Saladin, are you thinking of Chris Crawford's classic "Balance of Power"?

I think I signed an NDA - so all I can say is it looks sweet. Once they get it out the door I am going to snap it right up. Perhaps we can run EvAv games.

I *really* love the presentation. Im worried about the replay value, im mean its like nuclear tic-tac-toe innit?...fun at first but soon gets old and irradiated.
Now this is a game with /style/ :) The soundscape is just right too, for me...this could well replace minsweeper and solitaire :P
