Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/10/the-irony-kills-psp-music-download-service-stalled-by-drm/) says all that need be said with: "Oh the irony"It's one thing to hold off competitors or annoy those pesky consumers with a bit of DRM, but Sony is really taking this stuff all the way now that they've managed to hold up their own operations with attempts to secure content on the PSP. Apparently they're hoping to launch a WiFi-friendly music store, with similarities to iTunes in operation, but haven't quite got the DRM system sorted. "A big issue for us has been the (Digital Rights Management) and how we can secure that content to the Memory Stick," says John Koller, senior marketing manager for the PSP.
I think the irony disease is going around lately.

Cause consumers need to make sure their DRM is done right.
Remember, rushed to market DRM solutions are cracked today. Expensive, complicated DRM solutions are cracked tomorrow. No need to rush.

This is pretty old news. We've known that Sony was looking for a DRM structure since March, when connect.com for PSP never launched.

I'm an idiot. Somebody explain to me where the irony is?

This is so funny. Sony bungles a no-brainer, then does it again and again until you think it must be on purpose. Is the intent just to make consumers laugh?
(consumers who didn't buy the ill-fated PSP that is...)

For me, the irony is that supposedly DRM is in place to combat piracy, which companies/organizations claim hurt sales. In this case, implementing the DRM is delaying Sony's project, which is definately directly hurting their sales.

This should really help them with the launch of Mylo as well, lol.

I'm an idiot. Somebody explain to me where the irony is?DRM is supposed to increase sales because noone can run illicit copies. But just as with every other case, DRM is only hindering sales, and in this case preventing the entire sale.

A DRM so secure, not even the system built to sell the protected content can distribute it!
