Will Wright Interview, Late 2007 Spore Release

Lots of juicy information here. Also so bad news as it looks like we won't be seeing this till Holiday next year.GS: Finally, we've heard a few different dates get tossed around for the release of Spore. When is the game scheduled to launch?

WW: We're saying the second half of next year [2007] for now.

I figured it wouldn't be out for the holidays this year but it stinks that we'll have to wait what looks to be about another year for this gem.

This is why the hype for this game after last years GDC and this years E3 bothered me so much. It was game of show for E3 2005 AND E3 2006 and the boards were afire with "PC GAMING IS BACK!". Ya, it's back, IN 2007!

WW's people were saying.. "Its probably 2007", and no one seemed to listen.

Rant: This is why E3 going away is not a bad thing to me. I don't want to see games that are years away. I want to see games I can buy in 6 months or so. I feel the same way about the car shows, don't show it to me unless I can buy it.

You can keep waiting. This game is never coming out. It is the perfect example of "dreamware". A hot shot developer with a stunning track record is given the creative freedom and unlimited resources to design whatever the hell he can come up with, or his dream title. He starts making an absurdly overly ambitious game that will never see completion or will wind up being rushed to release years late once the execs are fed up with the dicking and exist as a third-rate hack job with few if any of the originally touted features.
