Holy Sega Genesis! Earthworm Jim is making a comeback, and he's making it on the PSP. IGN (http://psp.ign.com/articles/724/724720p1.html) recently got some hands on time with the game. It looks gorgeous, and looks to stay true to its roots. The game plays very much like its 2D predecessors, meaning it blends snazzy animation with action and platform elements. Sounds like a dry description of an admittedly funky game, but that's Jim in a nutshell. What makes it special, though, lies strictly with how developer Shiny Entertainment mixes those elements to form something altogether groovy and unique.Screenshots here (http://media.psp.ign.com/media/792/792881/imgs_1.html).

Yes...yes...yes! Daddy needs you like a threesome with Scarlett Johansson and Charlize Theron.

one of the best platformers ever
Totally - this game ruled my Genesis days. This, along with Ultimate Ghouls and Ghosts, make me glad I got a PSP (although I've really been enjoying Loco Roco and VP:L...)

Grrrrrrrrooovy! Hopefully it's more than just a graphical update, level for level, of the original as the screenshots seem to indicate. Multiplayer? Sounds dodgy to me.

Damnit, of COURSE this would be released on PSP. Now I will never get to play it.

I can pass. I enjoyed the original but it had no load times. I wouldn't mind an Xbox Live version for $5. How about a release of the Genesis version on Wii's Virtual Console?
It will take more than a remake of an old game to bother digging out my PSP again.

I can pass. I enjoyed the original but it had no load times. Go play it on an emulator. The SNES version most definatelly has load times. About 4 seconds or so at the start of every level.

Clearly you weren't playing on SegaCD, good sir.

The Genesis version had load times too. Pretty irritating, as I recall.

I would prefer to enjoy Miss Johansson all by herself.
And I [gasp] don't care about Earthworm Jim. Mwa ha ha ha ha!!!

The PC remake: Earth Worm Jim 1 & 2: The Whole Can Of Worms was the best version by far. It had the Sega CD version of 1 (w/ redrawn graphics on top of that) along w/ a complete remake of 2... and *still* one of the best soundtracks ever. (Completely redone from scratch.)
Dave Perry wrote the first one on the Genesis, that was it. Now Dave is a business man, and Shiny... I hate to say it but Shiny sucks now. (Go find a copy of Wild 9 for the PS1 for some good gaming, though!)

I can't think Earthworm Jim without thinking about the Snowman in hell sub-boss fight.
My god that was a fun game.

I didn't have a chance to play this classic back in the day...
...Looks like I will now get that. Excellent!

Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 were great, the 3rd one (Earthworm Jim 3D) was rather horrible.

Why the fuck did they use polygons to make this version? The old sprites were a million times better. Companies keep insisting on using 3D technology to remake 2D games, and in the process they almost always make them look worse. This is like the SEGA Classics Collection all over again.

I still remember getting to the end of the first one, and actually shouting "what the fuck?" out loud. Oh, childhood...

My vote for Best Analogy of 2006.

Now, while stuff like the recent Mega Man and Mega Man X remakes for PSP does interest me, does anyone else find it a bit depressing that some of the most exciting content on PSP is remakes of SNES games?
Like, my friends the games they're most excited about are things like the Mega Man remakes or the new Ghouls And Ghosts or the Gradius port.
This uber powerful handheld and devs can't be bothered to spend the money on original console-quality content, so they port 16 bit games. Or if a game does happen to feature console-quality content it's usually a port of a PS2 game (I'm very appreciative of efforts like Daxter, though it didn't sell as well as it deserved to). Liberty City Stories impressed me less since they reuse so much content from GTA 3, it's more of an expansion pack, multiplayer mode notwithstanding.
I dunno. I just find it funny that the DS, a less powerful system, so far has in my eyes provided more console-like original content than the PSP.

Forget the top. I'm thinking the middle is where it's at. ;)
