Strategy Informer (http://www.strategyinformer.com/) has posted up some new screenshots for Sid Meier's Railroads!, 12 in total that is. The game is currently set to be released Fall 2006 and I'm looking forward to it.

Is anyone up for making a Thomas the Tank Engine mod? :p

I've been craving trains for some bizarre reason.

I bought CivRome against my better judgement. Which is odd, because my judgement was right: It was shovelware.
The developer Impressions, made Pharoh and Rise of the Middle Kingdom (Egypt and China, resepectively) city builder sims: They were tough but they were made really well.
CivRome is like Pharoh and RofMK except they stole the game mechanics, badly, and simplified the game, gave it terrible controls, removed interesting features and slapped the Firaxis logo. I know Firefly Studios were bad, having owned Stronghold and Stronghold 2, but I really though Firefly + Firaxis might = something good. No, 2k just tacked on a tech tree onto a bad game. Shame on them.
...
I was going to get this Train game, now I think I'll wait. Shame on you 2k.

Really? I haven't had a chance to tryout Civrome yet but I know I received it the other day. I'm looking forward to getting this title and hope someone makes a Thomas the tank engine mod because wouldn't that be cool! lol

I was very disappointed with CivRome, I was expecting a hyrid of city-builder with some of the infrastructure work you normally find in a Firaxis Civ game: a real-time or close to real-time Total War game. It however, was none of these things.
I can tell from the screenshots of Railroads it's built on the Civ IV engine, which is a big plus, but I won't get bit twice. I'm holding off on this one.

I will give this one a go. I like the train games. I have RRT3 and played it a bunch. Hopefully this one will be good. But who knows. As for CivCity I was skeptical about that once I realized Firefly was working on it. I vowed not to buy another one of their products after Stronghold 2.

I loved Ringo and Carlin as the conductor!
When I discovered that George Carlin was actually the dirtiest old man alive... a little part of me died.

CivCity Rome was a letdown for me as well, it was far too simplified. All I want is Ceaser III in 3D and maybe a few new bells and whistles. Nothing major. I have a feeling that this entire CivCity series is going to be a complete failure. Fraxis said they'd be watching over development of the series but Rome is proof they are obviously not.

I've gotten some fun out of Civcity Rome, but was overall dissapointed. The resource management isn't interesting enough, and the distance houses will look for their needs is so short it overwhelms all other considerations in city design. You can't really decorate your city , or make a really nice design, because a single row of trees can make it harder for houses to get the goods they need.

Some of their screenshots looks like the have problems keeping the wheels on the track ( especially the front ones ). I know nothing about this game, but I love trains, so I'll probably pick it up when it comes out.

I think you are much safer here as Sid's involved.

Personally I think Firaxis/2k is being way too quick to slap the Firaxis/Sid Meier name on anything these days. CivCity, Railroads...I know they have a few others in the works as well - they announced them all at the same time earlier this year. It was the most underwhelming list I think I've ever seen - everything was a copy of something another developer has already done. CivCity = Caesar, Railroads = Railroad/Transport Tycoon, etc. Come on guys, cut the crap and make something different! I have a lot of faith in Sid and Firaxis, but this is all very disappointing to say the least.
