Taken from an Atlus press release at The Revolution Lifestyle (http://theboard.zogdog.com/index.php?automodule=blog&blogid=11&) :

Atlus U.S.A., Inc., a leading publisher of interactive entertainment, today issued a prescription of good news for fans of the company’s best-selling and critically acclaimed Trauma Center series of medical drama simulations. First, Trauma Center: Second Opinion was confirmed as a launch title for Nintendo’s new, highly anticipated console—Wii, which is poised to take the video game world by storm in the fourth quarter of 2006. This robust “Wii-make” of Under the Knife features new graphics and animation, new surgical implements and operation types, a second playable character with all-new missions, multiple difficulty modes for gamers of all skill levels, and a revised control system that takes full advantage of the revolutionary Wii Remote and Nunchuk-style controller.

In addition, thanks to a wave of demand triggered by the launch of the Nintendo DS Lite, Trauma Center: Under the Knife will receive a second re-release, to arrive at retail in mid-August. Under the Knife has been hailed by critics as “arguably the most compelling use of the touch screen yet [Modojo]…One of the most creative and entertaining experiences the DS has offered [GotNext].”

"The staff was not impressed by your imitation of Jack the Ripper."

L&D was great fun.

L&D, I remember that game. A friend let me borrow his copy, and when I booted it up with his save disk, I found his Doctor's Signature was a very neatly writen, tightly printed, "Sir Mix a Lot". I still have no idea how he fit that in the "initals" box of L&D.

I had mixed feelings about Tramua Center. For the first parts of it, Awesome! Then GUILT starts showing up in diseases, and you have to play catch the funky thing in six places at once, while playing tapdance to change through the four tools you need to do in exact order to de-GUILT a certain GUILT. Got more frustrating than fun later.

Still: Overall, the presentation/story/ideas were just great. Frustration level killed a lot of it for me.

Nice, Lekon. I'd pay money for a screen shot of that.

*big smile* I loved that game. I might go so far as to preorder it for the Wii.

That's awesome news. Trauma Center is one of my absolute favorite DS games.

So it is a remake of the DS game though. I wonder how many new missions will actually come with it... O.o

Does anyone have a list of games that have been confirmed as launch titles? I'm sure such a list would be fairly long by now.

Well, according to the article, there is a lot that is different with the game...

...new graphics and animation, new surgical implements and operation types, a second playable character with all-new missions, multiple difficulty modes for gamers of all skill levels, and a revised control system that takes full advantage of the revolutionary Wii Remote and Nunchuk-style controller.

90% of the original game was actually doing the operations and mastering the movements with the stylus. With Wii, you will have to learn a whole new control scheme using the Wiimote. Sounds like a new game to me.

I don't know how you guys could pre-order anything anymore, unless it comes with a free gift.

Nintendo system's have always been slow starters and their software is always constantly delayed. Waiting a few months and saving your pennies seems like the better approach to me.

This isn't a new game. It's a port of the DS game with some new content. The control scheme shouldn't be too much different with the DS Stylus than the Wiimote.

You could say the exact same thing about Sony systems. Here...try this on for size...

Anyone remember the first year of PS2 titles? SSX and Fantavision can only take you so far. It was more than a year before Metal Gear Solid, the first AAA title came out.

Compare that to the list of confirmed Wii titles.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers
Far Cry
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors
GT Pro Series
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Metal Slug Anthology
Monster 4x4 World Circuit
Open Season
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Red Steel
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Wii Sports
Zelda: Twilight Princess

Already the list is huge with big names in there. 4-player Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, AT LAUNCH?! According to the Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii#Expected_launch_titles), there are expected to be around 30 games available at launch.

Who's off to a slow start?

Crystal Chronicles isn't hitting at launch. No way. We won't see that for another year at least.

Okay. This is MORE of a new game than 90% of PSP 'games'. Oh, I mean, ports.

the very fact that you'd venture to compare it to a portable is just sad. it's not gonna do _that_ badly. :p

According to the Wiki, the game is slated for 2006 4th Quarter (launch title).

If the Wiki isn't right then it isn't. I'm just going by what I can find. If someone can find a better list; a more accurate launch list, I'm game.

LMAO!

Well, the first trauma center is a portable game, so it only makes sense to compare the two. What other version of Trauma Center would you like me to compare it to?

That's actually a concern of mine. I know that I was extremely disappointed with WarioWare for the GameCube--there just wasn't enough new to justify purchasing the game again, party mode or no.

It is NOT a remake. Read the press release! It is a "Wii-make", which we know is better, because of the quotes and play on words.

Kids today...

The fact that it is just a remake (albiet with new controls and extra content) sucks. I'll probably pick it up anyway.

Is a remake better than a port? I see an article on the EvAv home page about PS3 getting a port of F.E.A.R. and PS3 kids seem excited. Trauma Center being a remake with new controls, levels, art and difficulty modes coming from a portable to a console sounds like a much better deal than porting a FPS game from a PC to a console.

But hey, that's just me. :)

If there is a second character and if there are new animations, surgical tools, etc, I'll definately pick it up.

I might give it a rent first though. I really like the DS version, even the GUILT levels. Except now I'm stuck. Hopefully the time I've taken off from the game will have the same effect it did last time. I was hopelessly stuck on a level and after not playing the game for a month or so I went back and aced the operation in one sitting. It is definately one of the harder games that I've played, but it's rewarding when you do finish a particularly difficult surgery.

And using the Wiimote to do the surgery should be pretty spiffy.

It is more acurate to call it a new game with similar story and missions than a port or anything. They remade the whole interface, engine, graphics, voice-overs, new scenes...
it is even more different than RE1 and REmake.

It will probably ROCK. I love Trauma Center Under the knife.

Right on Maggy! The launch list is crunishing! I figure, 22 launch titles at $50 a pop would be $1100 to buy them all! Add in a console for $250 and an extra controller for $50 and you are looking at nearly $1500 to get it all.

Damn. I'm gonna need a bigger change jar.

I think I'll just get a couple to start and rent the rest... if I can somehow sneak the Wii into the house and avoid certain death from the Mrs.
