Although this happened on Wednesday (http://www.lineage2.com/news/news.html#a007598), I think its still news worth noting, especially for Lineage 2 players.

During the investigation of the exploit that resulted in Monday’s unscheduled maintenance, we discovered the existence of a possible security vulnerability. As a result, the servers have been brought down to address this issue. Additionally, all Lineage II game passwords have been reset for security purposes to ensure the safety of your Lineage II account. Please log into your PlayNC account immediately and change the password to your Lineage II game account. This action is necessary in order to log in to the game. You may also need to change your PlayNC master account password as an additional precaution. We realize this is an inconvenience, and we sincerely apologize. If there was an exploit revealing username and password info, I'm sure credit card information was easily accessible too?

Ouch.

If there was an exploit revealing username and password info, I'm sure credit card information was easily accessible too?

I wouldn't think so. The account names and passwords would be stored on the login servers, the billing information would not.

If I remember right something similar happened to another MMO a while back and the official word then was that they didn't keep billing information in the same place, because they knew there was a slight security risk. Also, if they did keep the info in the same place, I think they would have mentioned it- in the long run it would severely damage them when the news inevitably came out.

Why does this have a question mark? Are you sure or aren't you?

End game is great but getting there is the biggest bitch of any MMO ever made.

Bastards all.

There was a problem a bit back, where Albatross18, one of my favorite games, got shut down for a while because the same jackass hacker kept going after them again and again.

I also recall Ragnarok Online having a problem with this back when they first went pay. There were a lot of folks that stayed away as I recall, due to rumors that their billing system wasn't secure.

I hope the secruity of my many Lineage II t-shirts isn't compromised because of this.

Yeah, because I tried this game for a week, now my PlayNC master account password was changed. I want my City of Villians!

It also seemed like sometihng you'd want to avoid unless you like constant involuntary world raid PvP.

I would not think credit card info would be available. Even if it was held in the same place (doubtful), it definitely should be encrypted in the DB.

They must all be in Asia because this game sold like ass in the US. Oh wait, that's just like Lineage I. :)

Yes most of them are in Korea. Last I read (not to long ago) there were still a little over a million US subscribers.

I'm one of them. :D
