I really wish someone would make a real Star Trek game... Something where I am the Captain of a ship, I can explore my ship and interact with my crew freely, and explore a sandbox Alpha Quadrant. That is all I want... Like Oblivion, but in Star Trek.

Don't they have a Star Trek MMO coming out? Maybe that will have what you want.

so kind of like Mass Effect, but with the star trek branding? i'd like the same thing, so i'm hoping Mass Effect will sort of deliver that.
a space combat with star trek just isn't exciting as most of the ships weren't really built for just combat and quick responses. it'd be like playing twisted metal with cruise-ships. i get the impression they wanted to do a tie-fighter style game, but couldn't get the license.

I'm also strongly hoping for Mass Effect to be that Star Trek game we always wanted. The way they describe you as the captain of the giant ship, able to customize both it, and your own personal lander, make it seem like the perfect game for the armchair Picards out there.
This game doesn't really grab me, when I see "arcade" I tend to think "Mindless shump" on the ps2. The MMO does at least have promise though from what I've seen, mostly since its not another elves and dragons.
Wow, I went off and on topic rather quickly there.

So Bridge Commander meets Oblivion meets Spore, perhaps with the option of voice commands (that have multiple words for the same thing and redundancy (for instance, arm weapons or Mr <guy>; arm weapons), allowing you to change things up a bit and connect with your crew better) with a small army of easter eggs to find consisting of things from voice cameos to a planet of tribbles.

I vote for you to design it!
Well, get started!

I've been designing this game in my head for over a decade. Even adding a council of "rabid fanboys" to my development team to make sure everything is as accurate as possible. You know the people who have counted the number of combined steps Kirk took throughout the full run of the series with a separate count for the films.
Besides, I can only imagine their arguments as legendary and great entertainment for the rest of the team.
Also there won't any reference to Voyager or anything it did, anywhere.
I vote for Galaxy Quest game instead of Star Trek.

Design wise that doesn't sound unreasonable but then you get space travel like in KotoR which isn't really travelling. :-/
If you set course for some where, that should be a chance to mingle, and sandbox on ship. Throw in chances of crosspaths of <insert game villian> ships, in which case you run back to the bridge and get you fight on. And you should be able to do all them damn tricks the show has. "Take out the warp drives." And get you ass out of there. Do you some Photon torpedoes. Land on planets and take a few red shirts. Bye Ensign Ricky.

You know a lot of this combat stuff has already been done in stuff like Klingon Academy and Bridge Commander. Still too arcadey, granted, but the effect of your weapons is always nice, from the damage modelling to the sub system targetting.

Good thing they're doing Star Trek, then!
Actually, Bethsoft is publishing them, Mad Doc is doing the development. :)
