Hey Evil, how is The Descent on the gore? I really wanna see it, but the GF hates gorey movies. She can do horror movies, she just isn't a big fan of the gore. As ann example, she laughed her ass off at The Grudge, but was disgusted with The Hills Have Eyes.

Not that bad. It has a couple of moments, but with there being so much darkness they downplay the gore most of the time.

Ricky Bobby was awesome. Classic lines all through.

The Descent is an overrated piece of crap, given high marks just because it is a foreign film. The Cave was somehow better.
It is also cool how Lady in the Water is doing awful.

Talladega Nights is two movies in one -- one about NASCAR, and one mocking people who go see movies about NASCAR. I saw it with a friend of mine and he and I were the only ones laughing at multiple points.
As for The Descent, I saw it last night and I thought it was fairly gorey. I mean, it's not a Miike movie or anything, but it wasn't network TV, either.

'Talladega Nights' was a huge letdown. Those expecting another 'Anchorman' will be sorely disappointed.

I liked Talladega Nights, though it is indeed no Anchorman. The gags just seemed to be a little more generic, no doubt to garner a bit more mass appeal with your average audience. I wouldn't call it a "letdown" by any means, but I'd agree that it wasn't as good as Anchorman.

Ricky:"Was that Mos Def and Elvis Costello?"
Jean: "No"
Oh, and I'd just like to add that the single funniest moment of the night was the 'Borat' trailer before the movie started.

You thought The Cave was better than The Descent? Just what is that tall green plant with the long green leaves that you have been smoking???

It's all about Cole Hauer.
I cannot believe that so many people didn't like Talledega Nights. Anchorman was wacky and loud, TN is dry and just bizarre. What about the dinner scene? The obnoxious kids? How about RB's buddy? My god, that movie is full of gems.

The Borat trailer was amazing. I was a bit disappointed that Sascha Baron Cohen's character fell a bit flat in Talledega Nights. All in all, the movie was funny and had its moments, but it was no anchorman.

I liked Taladega. The little kids were hillarious. And Will Ferrell had his moments.

I liked Talladega all right. It was pretty mediocre overall, but several parts really had me in stitches.

Eh, I suppose this means that more Will Ferrell movies are on their way. :(
He's up there with Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler in my list of Least Favorite Actors of all time. Jim Carrey somewhat redeemed himself with The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but Sandler and Ferrell always make me cringe.
A lot of releases are just tanking. How long before we get the "poor Hollywood" articles again?

I can agree with you exactly on Sandler and Carrey, but Will Ferrell is a comic genius. IMO he is up there with Bill Murray and John Belushi...

While I certainly like Sandler's comedies, to carry the comparison to Carrey over, he's also done some quite good dramas. Spanglish was surprisingly good and Punch-Drunk Love was great. I can see how they might not balance out his more mindless movies if you don't like those, but he has done some more serious work.
While still a pretty wacky comedic role, Will Farrell was also in Woody Allen's Melinda & Melinda. Again, it wasn't terribly serious, but was still quite a bit different from his other characters, who are pretty much all the same, if funny.

As soon as summer is over. While overall the weekend boxoffice charts are up about 17% over the previous year, it is really just one or two "mini-hits" like Talladega Nights bringing in more money than the studios predicted that balance out the real stinkers.
The sad part is that if you check out the full boxoffice chart, there are a ton of films that were pretty crappy and made big money at the box office.
Hollywood keeps cranking out the crap and we keep paying to see it.

The Cave better than The Descent? Only if Aliens 4 was better than Alien. I saw The Descent on the weekend, and watched The Cave last night. While The Cave is not as bad as my previously mentioned Aliens 4, it tries to be action-movie-cool by having the creatures kick-ass alien-looking things that are nearly impossible to beat. The Descent does a good job of having realistic "monsters" that are no more dangerous than any other predator-type animal (albeit they are in their environment, while the people are not). The Descent is much more realistic, much scarier, and very novel in the fact there are no men to come rescue these "poor, helpless women". As for the gore in The Descent, it is there in spades. It can be hard to pick out because of the lighting, as mentioned, but the blood does fly heavy, and some scenes are quite gruesome. Not sure if I would recommend it to the squeamish.

I went and sawe Miami Vice, and was very dissappointed. What made it worth the money was the Ferrari F430 in the movie and the Borat trrailer before... I was hoping for a Gears of War trailer but no luck. I got there after the commercials and crap but before the movie trailers.

I thought Talladega Nights was a huge letdown. The jokes were just flat and wasn't all that funny. I pretty much thought the funniest moments were in the trailers themselves. Maybe because I had high hopes or something.

Man... I didn't know people liked Anchorman that much. I thought it was ok but not that funny. Only in moments. Ricky Bobby was far more classic.

Other people have said this to me as well when I praise Carrey's dramatic work but harp on Sandler. Sandler just bugs me period, even in the dramatic pieces. I REALLY wanted to like Punch Drunk Love - I loved (no pun intended) Boogie Nights and Magnolia. I think Paul Thomas Anderson is great and had high hopes for PDL, but seeing Sandler just annoyed the hell out of me the whole time. I should give the movie another chance though.

I do agree with you though that, whatever my feelings about Sandler, Carrey has done a much better job of transitioning into serious roles.
