Strategy Informer (http://www.strategyinformer.com/) had a chat with Chris Wren, Senior Producer for Namco Bandai Games America to talk about what those guys are doing with Warhammer: Mark of Chaos. In the interview SI finds out that a demo is going to be released and the date the game is released is now set to the end of October 2006. Here's a snippet:
One thing we're excited about telling people is that we will be releasing a very powerful editor to the public on the day the game launches. This editor will allow some of the more ambitious fans of the game to construct their own maps and scenarios for both single and multiplayer gaming. While we are shipping the game with an enormous amount of content already, 2 full campaigns and over 20 multiplayer maps, we feel that the community will really enjoy this tool to keep the Warhammer machine going while we are working on our next product.
You can read the rest here (http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/warhammermarkofchaos/interview.html).

Seems like the Warhammer franchise is becoming highly prolific in the video game industry...

Any word on resource management and base building? Those are two aspects that could make it or break it for me.

I want to be impressed by this game, but anything remotely RTS frightens me.

This game is looking pretty freaking good so far, and that's great news about a demo. I just started playing warhammer fantasy tabletop so this is just up my alley.

It's an amazing hobby some people have with Warhammer. My cousin and uncle have spent hundreds of dollars and hours painting figures and building maps. Pretty hardcore stuff.

I have guarded optimism about this game. It looks like it's going to be a good game.

Personally, I'm more excited about the Dark Crusade expansion for Warhammer 40k Dawn of War. I love that game hard.

Any "base building" will be somewhat similar to Rome: Total War from what I understand. The combat portion is pure combat and troops movement, none of that ressource gathering and base building BS. That makes me pretty happy... Anything less than that, and it wouldnt be true to the tabletop game.

Agreed. If it had the base building I would not be all that interested. So far it sounds like it staying more true to the tabletop and it's predecessor "Dark Omen".
Dawn of War was so much better than Star Craft or TA.

You are either being sarcastic or flamebaiting. I'm not saying I agree or disagree (pretty ambivalent about the whole thing), I'm just saying that I've got a feeling that there will be some disagreement.

Is becoming? I suppose you've missed the plethora of Warhammer games of various ilk that have come out in the last ten years.
I know I've played at least six in my time, including the original Blood Bowl. God, I miss you, Blood Bowl.

This game is going to be terrible, dark crusade is going to be much better. What is wrong with developers? No basebuilding... "lets not follow in the footsteps of starcraft, C&C, and every good RTS made". Without bases RTSs degrade into puzzle games

Your an idiot. I just figured you would like to know that.
DoW:DC is gonna be great, but to say basebuilding is required means that you have a very limited RTS experience.

Yes the reason many Warhammer Table top fans are excited about this is because it has no base building, and you can pretty much customize your army however you want, so I can recreate my Chaos Knights table top army...that is worth the price of admission alone. Now (and yes guys I love DoW too) if we can get a 40K version of this I would be one happy guy.
