GamingNexus is running an interview (http://www.gamingnexus.com/Default.aspx?Section=Article&I=1141) with TDU producer Ahmed Boukhelifa.

GamingNexus: The game has been delayed a few times over the last few years, could you provide some insight into the delays? Was there ever a temptation just to crank out a new iteration of the series with upgraded graphics and a few new features (i.e. the Madden approach)?

Ahmed Boukhelifa: When we started on Test Drive Unlimited, we knew we were attempting something that had never been done before. With that ambition comes technological hurdles and obstacles that we had to work out before we could be confident that we would introduce a racing game with the potential to redefine the entire racing genre. We didn’t want to just put another racing game out, we wanted to blow the roof off of what fans could expect.

After that terrible demo, color me: "Disinterested To The Maxxx!" and then stick a fork in me, cause im done like a baked potato in being interested in this title.
:D
I love driving games, but the controls and lockups ...

Even after playing the demo, I'm still interested. Especially at $40. I would get it for cruising in my favorite cars in gorgeous environments. Not for racing. I've got PGR3 for that.

This will tide me over till a real open-world racer comes along, like Need for Speed.

I really liked the demo. I didn't get much in the way of lockups (remember, the demo is several months old already, so much is forgivable). I liked that I could just go for a drive in a nice car. Are the earlier iterations of this game the same model? Just go driving around looking for a race?

-Yeah that's the one *points excitedly*

Re: Lockups. Mine froze 3 times in a row. I don't know whether they fixed this or not as i haven't played it since.

I really enjoyed the demo. I'd rather play Test Drive Unlimited than any of the Need for Speed games or the travesty that Burnout has become.

We didn’t want to just put another racing game out, we wanted to blow the roof off of what fans could expect..

I don't see how you plan to do that when all the cars handle like go karts.

If they sort out the handling then I think the potential for this game is quite high but as it stands I can't play a driving game where it doesn't actually feel like I'm driving.
