Gamingbits (http://www.gamingbits.com) spoke with EA in regards to their financial results for Q1. During which they stated that Wii games will not exceed the $49.99 mark. Check out the Gamingbits news article here (http://www.gamingbits.com/content/view/942/2/).

This really isn't a shocker, but personally I think $49.99 is very reasonable - certainly better than what I was expecting. And these are their high-quality titles, so the little titles will be even less.

Definitely nice that we know games won't go over that mark for the Wii. If EA doesn't do it, I don't expect many other publishers to do it. To be completely honest, with Nintendo's push towards a new type of gamer, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of titles (at least or especially Nintendo developed or published titles) going for much cheaper than the norm -- 30 or 40 if not less.

I for one might actually start buying games again if the prices become this reasonable. Taken that it's games that I want, of course.

Wii is still going to bankrupt me.

That's interesting, should help the adoption rate a good amount. Considering the choice between consoles, the more expensive ones with the more expensive games or the cheaper one with cheaper games and a cool controller.

Wii is still going to bankrupt me.

For sure.

The wii was the main motivation to get a job over the summer. 1.5k dollars in the bank and I'm sure i'm going to get a ton of wii games with it.

with (how many??) launch titles they better be $50 or less each...

I'd just like to point out that "quality" is maybe not the best word to describe the $50 games. "Higher budget" perhaps, but I think we all know that there's no guarantee of quality at any price range.

...kinda like how DS games are cheaper than PSP games...

I don't think an article has ever made me so happy.

It's a good price for games like Zelda and Metroid. But not a good price for gimmick games like "cooking simulator" or the other kinds of proof-of-concept stuff they've been showing.

Ok then how about 29.99-39.99 for the shorter games? :)

As I said above, that's exactly what I'd expect. $49.99 for the big-name stuff but closer to the 20-40 range for some of the smaller more experimental games.

29.99 is getting closer. It's still a bit beyond the impulse-buy range, which is what is driving the Brain Age type of games. I think for the stranger concepts, 19.99 would be better.

I remember an executive from Nintendo mentioning that game prices are too high. That he'd like to see smaller games priced lower, but have the price remain stable for longer. This is completely opposite to the current model where every game starts at $50-$60 and then falls.

Maybe we'll see cheaper games in the future.

Nintendo's proof of concept games are basically the best they release, In my opinion. F-Zero and Pilotwings were some of the best videogames I've ever played and, Pilotwings specifically, was nothing more than a bunch of proof of concept mini games.

I'm really hoping that most games on the system go for even less. I won't buy most titles until they hit the $30 price point, and it would be nice if more games started at that point. Pricing every game at $50 (let alone $60, ha!) is just silly. I'd own Chibi Robo if it had come out for $30 or less. I won't pay full price for it, and I have a feeling that it will just disappear from stores rather than being price-dropped - that seems to happen fairly often with more obscure titles.
