IGN (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/722/722634p1.html) has a preview up of Lumines for XBLA. Contrary to earlier rumors (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14122&highlight=lumines), multiplayer is built into the core of the game and not a separate purchase.

Mizuguchi's version of Lumines on Xbox Live Arcade features at least seven modes of play, built-in multiplayer both offline and online (yes, online multiplayer is built into the core game), Achievements, Leaderboard and GamerScore support, and online competitive modes. This, of course, all comes with 720 support and Dolby 5.1 sound to enrich the game for people not looking forward to squinting at their small screen PSPs. Seeing Lumines Live on a high-res widescreen TV and hearing it from decent speakers is almost an entirely different experience.
No word on price though, my guess is 1200 points.

This seriously can't come out fast enough. I'm just really hopeful the music selection doesn't make me cry. :)

My thoughts exactly. That game has been worth every cent of the 50 bucks I paid for it at launch. It's still the only PSP game I care to play.

Yeah 15$ isn't too bad, glad to hear they didn't cripple the game by making features like multiplayer as extra add ons through marketplace.

Why the DS gets no Lumines loving???? I don't understand.

Why the DS gets to... huh?

I don't understand either... your post that is.

Are you asking why there is no Lumines on the DS?

Considering it's a "full fledged game" and a fantastic one at that, I won't bat an eye as long as the points are under $25 worth.

Automaton,

I don't know if you have edited your post since I posted or whether I just had a brain fart at the time but now it makes sense.

I think the reason the DS never got Lumines loving is because I don't think the cartridge format lends itself to so many sampled sounds and video... I could be wrong. Also the non-widescreen format of the DS would work against it too.

Didn't the DS get it's own version of a puzzle game from the same guy who made Lumines? One that worked ot the strengths of the dS?

No way I'm paying 1200 for an arcade game. Is it that good?

Make it 800 and we can start talking...

This is a full price game being released on Arcade, it is not an Arcade game. What I mean is just because it is being delivered via the Arcade does not mean it is comparable to other titles the system has seen.

This could be released via normal retail channels and I'd be buying it up quick sharp.

Lumines is one of the greatest puzzle titles of all time, 1200 is an absolute steal considering it was released full price in stores on the PSP.

And yes JazGalaxy, the DS did get another puzzle game by Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Lumines, Rez, Space Channel 5, Ninety Nine Nights) called Meteos. It was fun but in my eyes not a spot on Lumines. Very different game as well.

Meteos was just too easy. All you have to do is scribble on the screen really fast.

ElPresidente

That works for the most part but the really high scores needed a bit more precision. Having said that, knowing that scribbling would get you out of a tight spot when things got too hot did take a degree of fun out of the game.

Lumines has kept me going since I bought it at launch, I still play it today. Meteos got played for a couple of weeks max.

I think that says plenty about the differences between the games. :D

I think the 'arcade' in 'Xbox Live Arcade' is confusing you.

This is a full game that was also available for the PSP for like 40 dollars. Did you want it for cheaper than 15 dollars? When a game like Alien Hommonid comes out for 1200 points, in HD, where it was 40 dollars on the xbox... will you still say it's only an arcade game?

Bankshot Billiards is 1200. It's pretty much a full retail game as well. It's just like Virtua Pool or something of the past.

So the 1200 points is the complete game? No crippling? I'd think about it if the game is completely intact.

I love puzzle games lately. In the past I was always somewhat apathetic towards them, but with Hexic HD I've suddenly gone nuts. Meteos and Polarium on the DS are great fun and worthy purchases, and Lumines is supposed to be even better than Meteos. I'm a puzzle addict now.

Though, I still don't really love tetris. At least the classic version. I don't know why.

It's ear, eye, and finger candy in one bundle ;) One of the true puzzle masterpieces that will be held among Tetris, Puzzle Fighter, and other elite puzzlers.

Virtual Pool was much better :( Probably the only money I wasted on XBLM I just grew bored of it really fast.

Control with the analog stick will be nice. Timing fast piece shifts used to be the crux of the game. Hopefully the introduction will make the control a bit more fluid.
