What's up with the giant monkey in the bottom picture? He looks decently modeled, but poorly textured.

Man gothic 3 looks worse and worse the more I see it. EQ2 character models were a huge turn off to me in the same way as I can't stand the plastic world clay look of everything.

I am disappointed with the alpha masked vegetation. It should not be too much of a performance hit to do alpha blending in order to get the nicely blended edges. Heck that can be done on a PSP without too much drop in framerate.

Why show us the WORST of the pictures out of 6?

I was going to ask that myself. It seems only the most turd-tacular screenshots have been making the frontpage lately.

What the hell? Gothic 2 was a nice enough looking game. This just looks terrible now. A great example of a focus on graphics turning out shit. They should have stuck with Gothic 2 level graphics and focused on other areas of the game. Here's hoping this turns out well, but the screens they released make it look pretty fugly. It's all high poly counts with no style.

I agree, these shots are http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/images/icons/icon13.gif, but the game actually looks very good.

I agree. Nothing better than crispy bitmaps.

Quiet you. I'm out in the midwest in 100 degree weather with high humidity, a house with no AC, and only a handful of fans. Good god I can't wait for winter, and we're talking midwest winter.
Back on topic: These screens do look awful, but hopefully the game really is better looking in motion. I'm still excited about playing the game, no matter what the graphics are like, but I do hope it ends up looking more like the earlier screenshots.
It's strangely low texture quality models.
Perhaps they wanted to keep the long distance view? But why then release close-up screenshots of low texture monsters? Doesn't make sense.
It is of little concern to me anyway, as the game inside will matter more.

Must be something in the air or in the water or something else out there that the N-Americans seem to be blind or the like.
Play Oblivion and all this other infantile stuff and let the adults play the real games.
Um...snap? Seriously, what the hell does this post mean? North Americans are blind? The Elder Scrolls and Gothic series are for kids? What are the real games you "adults" are playing? Jesus man! I just wanted to rag on some crappy screenshots!

I just cancelled this comment. Normally it is not my style. I am a real Gothic-enthusiast. But some of the commets made me really angry so I overshot the mark.
Greetings, Fladrif
And: I do not think the screens are "crappy"

Well, I wasn't impressed with your "first post" on the site, but I have to say, a rational response from you is refreshing. Thanks, and welcome.
I love Gothic 2, and I'm really looking forward to Gothic 3, but these screenshots just don't look as impressive as some of the ones we've seen before. In my mind, they're "crappier" than what we've seen previously, but not a deal breaker if the whole game looks that poorly textured. Honestly, I first played Gothic 2 about 8 months ago, and I sure as hell didn't play it for the graphics. As long as Gothic 3 retains the solid gameplay, it's going to be a lot of fun.
Edit: Post count 888, that's got to count for something?

I just have begun to play games again 4 months ago (where the f*** does the "again" belong. As you realized, I am not a native speaker). Before that I did not play games for YEARS. So I loved Gothic I/II also for the graphics but when I saw the screens and videos from G3 I really was thrilled.
Of course I do not have the knowledge about designing a game and in some german forums the folks there are also arguing ībout the graphics and so on. But the game is not yet ready and the screens are - in some details - fantastic (I think). Besides some of the new videos (in a german magazine) were great and do show the unbelievable potential the game has got. (hard to find the right words

Man, I think everyone is getting spoiled :p These screens look pretty sweet to me. Some of the model textures may look a little meh, but the terrain detail is incredible IMO. Maybe their last focus is character texturing? BTW, time to build a new PC for this (and to play Oblivion at more than minimal settings).

If you've played the other 2 games, the graphics is like a second thought. I couldn't care less about the freakin' models, lighting, etc, etc. Just give me the same type of game as the previous 2 and I'll be happy.
I didn't see anyone complaining about Oblivion's graphics, but how many of you actually finished it before getting bored to death? lol

Don't worry, you got it. I've seen much, much worse English, and that's coming from people who natively speak the language.
I haven't seen this game in motion since the early teaser videos, and first gameplay videos, and I'll bet you're right that this game looks better in motion. I think I'm still stuck on the older idea that screenshots capture the beauty of a game, but truth be told, they don't really work as well as they used to. So much of today's games have subtle details everywhere that are only apparent when the game is in motion. I'll have to watch a video before I can really give an honest opinion of how the game looks.

The environments certainly look better than the characters, and some bits could use polish, but this will still be a fine looking game. I'm more concerned about the controls and the "lol ur dead noob" factor.
And the holier-than-thou Gothic fanboys.

The environment looks good and the monsters look like standard Gothic monsters. It is just good to see more of the different enviroments that we will run into as we play the game.

Im a lil bit shocked of the coments in here! Here are many guys sayin, that these pics are crap and they dont look like the next gothic generation should look like. But if you look at these pictures you see that for example the shadows or the grass aren't at the final stadium! These are preview pictures and the main thing of preview pictures is, that they are out of a not finished game.
Some time ago i was sitting infront of my old pc and was reading some posts like some posts in here, about screenshots which dont look like gothic pictures should look like etc etc, the only difference was that the toppic of the article was: >New Gothic "2" Pictures< it was the same sh*t like here. After the release all of the people who said that Gothic 2 will be sh*t and that there won't be the "gothic-feeling" suddanly said, oohhhh its the best game ever, much better than gothic 1 and i knew it from the begin and so on.
I just wanna say, im sure that the Piranha-Bytes producers know what they are doing, and they know what the "HAVE" to do for all the fans. So they won't creat a game which "hasn't" the gothic-feeling. One thing which makes me know this is, that they didn't released the game "half-finished" when it was just a bit playable. They needed more time and more time and now the producing-time is one full year longer than the first release date said. So im sure, that they did a fantastic work and that they just used that extra-time to produce the best rpg ever!
I just had to write this lil post to let you know what i think!
sry for bad english... im from germany and i've a terrible english teacher :D
p.s.: oblivion suxx ;)
