With Quake Con starting this Thursday (and our own fitbabits going) Activision has released 2 new Screenshots (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?p=360277#post360277) of the upcoming game, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

Hotness, I pray my PC can run it, although I noticed that every new Doom 3 engine game looks better and runs better than the one before it on my rig.

Take that people who said the doom 3 engine could only do dark corridors

Delicious. With this QuakeWars, BioShock, and BF2142 this fall is looking like a good season for FPS fans. I'm also a few months overdue for a new rig, so whichever of these comes out first will break in a new computer it looks like.

I wasn't impressed with Quake Wars before. Now I am, in a big way.

QWars is so hot. Plays sweet ship it already. Only thing going against it is TF2 at this point. There was another game that was going against it...

... nope cant remember it.

Looks great. If the gameplay doesn't suck (like their last game), I might give it a shot. Good thing I was already looking into upgrading my PC, because I'm not one of those steamer-trunk-living leather-clad geeks who thinks that it is Ok to play an online game with all the special effects turned off.

Well, not everybody gets free 7800 GTXs for their birthdays.

It's true, it does. But it kind of irks me that you can tell someone decided to delay the project for another "Christmas Release" game, so now the designers got to put the extra polish on. I'm not angry about said polish, just that Activision could have released this game in the quiet summer months, but once again opts in on the holiday rush.

didnt quakewars get pushed into 2007 ?

/edit
To ensure the quality we want, we've decided to push the release out of 2006 to allow for extended testing, feedback and game balancing.

This game looks sexier every time I see new screens. I only hope there's gameplay to match.

Their last game, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory sucked like the DS failed, that is to say not at all. If you didn't like the Wolfenstein iteration, save yourself the trouble and skip Quake Wars. Hopefully by release time, your phobia of all things entertaining will kick in and prevent you from wasting your money.

Here, here. Buy a grwat looking game and make it look like ass to give myself an *ahem* unfair advantage online? No thanks.

Anyways, I really don't like screenshots as I have a hard time getting a feel for how the finished product will look. Take those new screenshots for instance, I think they look decent, nothing great, but I've seen worse.

goddammit.

everything about this title was so damn right. and then ... this
my interest dropped three notches with that shot of generic demon-soldier thing.

Fit, I'll be at Quakecon as well. Love to see you there if you're not too busy. I'll be there all day everyday and I've got a spot in the BYOC. I'll most likely be sporting a Codex t-shirt, plus I'm 6'9'' so I'm not too hard to find.

Hopefully, we'll see this in action at Qcon.

Wow, the Doom 3 engine looks real purty when the artists don't go crazy with specularity mapping.

The UT "pro community" would probably be happiest if all players were represented by brightly colored spheres, and environments were monochrome grey.

Worse, I'd hope, since I've actually got nothing against QW, and I hope it is a good game. I've bitched about the tech marketing, but they've lightened up a lot with that, and thus I've got nothing more to bitch about.

I'd be glad to see anything shake up the online shooter genre, as it's been pretty stale.

It's funny how they marketed the engine as one that would deliver great visual results and in the end it has...clearly something to complain about. ;)

that doesn't make demon soldier things the right direction to take.

I can't wait to see how the nazis tie in...

They're primarily an excuse to discuss all the other hype that's cocooned this game thus far :)

/sighIt's QUAKE WARS. I don't know how else to explain this to you. Without the Strogg, there wouldn't be any wars. If you're saying that they should have picked a different, fresher (i.e. non-Quake) premise for a Battlefield-style game, then perhaps I agree. But within that context, "demon soldiers" are a total necessity.

Enemy Teritory did very well

Wow, the Doom 3 engine looks real purty when the artists don't go crazy with specularity mapping.

But theres still tons of specular mapping in there :p I bet almost every surface has a specular map.
And if you look around in real life, almost every surface does there aswell.
Has a specular highlight that is...not a specular map :p
They've just done way better art and taken it out of the cramped dark dull indoors levels that were doom and quake 4.
