Well, it looks like there won't be a Miami Vice 2. Thankfully.

But it still is totally in the black, paid back marketing and everything, add in international and DVD the movie was a damn good investment of $6 mil.

Hey, it's Michael Mann. The guy can direct. I'd like to see it, but I haven't even looked at reviews. Looks totally cool though.

Hell, I liked it. It doesn't have too much to do with the original series, other than location and character names, but it was still an enjoyable flick. Not as good as some of Mann's other stuff, but he's got quite a reputation to live up to.

Michael Mann was a producer on the original series I believe, so he's got some experience with the material.

Dr. Bits and I went to see it yesterday and we both had a great time! There's some totally cool shit in the movie - the directing is top notch, the photography is sweet, and the casting is dead on. The only thing that bother me was (spoiler hidden):
Li Gong, who played Isabella, seemed to have some of her lines redubbed. I'm assuming this was because her accent was so strong and her pronunciation relatively weak.

Wrong. They only spent $135 Million making the film and it did better than the opening weekend for the Director's (Mann) last film, Collateral.
After it runs through the domestic release, international release, pay-per-view, tv rights and DVD sales, it will make a significant profit.
That is the thing I keep mentioning almost every week - almost all these films make money. That is why Hollywood keeps making such crappy films.

I'm bummed that people are still going to see PotC and not Superman.

even lady in the water is gonna end up making money, but dropping out of the top 5 and only making SEVEN million in week two is fucking disastrous.

We can close each others' eyes real fast, but nobody's gonna make any money.

Man, looks like it's going to be hard for Superman Returns to break 200million domestic. Clerks 2 has done well for it's costs and everything, but I would of liked to see it do better. Miami Vice looked shit first time I saw it, but it's growing on me.

I saw the Pirates movie this Saturday because the wife did not feel like going to see Miami Vice and it was very dissapointing, I would have expected more story, more exploration of the Jack Sparrow character but it was a whole lot of action scenes which all looked alike. And man, was this thing long... and then the whole "To be continued in the sequel" thing came up... blah!

Is Clerks II any good? I'm not doubting Smiths' artistic (yeah) prowess but I'd rather be on the safe side.

My friend said Clerks II was good, even though he thinks every other Kevin Smith movie sucks (except the first Clerks).
Pirates 2 is also a truly stupid movie. I hate all of the extended comedy sequences they tried to put into the film: the entire native island sequence, the rolling wheel thing on the dead man's chest island, keira knightley's stupid shouting and angst during the equally stupid three-man sword duel, etc.
I still need to see Lady in the Water...the score is amazing.

I was really glad to see that as well. That movie deserves every penny. :)
