Combining intuitive gaming with historically-inspired battles, Panzer Tactics DS lets would-be commanders lead their forces to victory or defeat in three exciting single-player campaigns, or compete in multiplayer games via Nintendo-WiFi Connection or wireless multiplayer. WorthPlaying had a chance to check out a recent build, here is a snip :
Each battle progresses in a pretty measured fashion and makes good use of the DS touch-screen as part of the combat interface. To move your own units around, you can simply tap them with the stylus and drag them to the desired hex tile. Most units can attack when adjacent to another unit, although artillery needs to be one hex away from its target and, airplanes have to be occupying the same hex as their target. When you initiate a battle, a window appears at the top of the screen that shows you the statistically likely outcome of such a skirmish for the unit on each side. If you decide you still want to fight, then click the confirm button or tap the touch-screen, and you'll enter a very Advance Wars-ish battle animation screen that shows icons of the two units and their HP at the top screen, and then the actual squads of the unit type clashing on the bottom.Check out the full Panzer Tactics DS (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=35850) over at WorthPlaying.

Holy crap, I am so looking forward to this game. It sounds like Advance Wars without the cartoony battles.
Battles over WiFi?!
SOLD!

Wow, WTF, that came out of nowhere... And it sounds great!
The DS is the ultimate "tactics" system, thanks to the 2 screens and stylus. Advance Wars a lot more fun with a stylus than with D-pad...
I'm sold.
PS: Dear Worthplaying people, please add "next screenshot" and "previous screenshot" buttons... It is quite easy to code that, thanks.

I know I shouldn't have, but I absolutely read the title as "Panzer Dragoon Tactics (NDS) Preview" and was thoroughly confused until I asked my mind to stop filling in nonexistant blanks.
The screenshots did get me interested, though...

I didn't even like Panzer Dragoon Orta and that is the same thing that popped into my mind. Maybe I'm subconsciously blocking out anymore WW2 era stuff ;)

The cartoony look of advance wars was 1/2 the charm of the game...

I don't have any problem with the cartoony look of the game, as long as it does not get in the way of the downright fantastic gameplay.
This game may appeal to those who are put off by the cartoony look of Advance Wars...
...and you can play it online.

I loved Panzer Dragoon Orta for what it is--a really, really, really nice rail shooter.
However, if that gameplay style wasn't to your liking, might I -highly- suggest Panzer Dragoon Saga? It's something of a turn-based tactical RPG on dragons for the Sega Saturn. It's hard as hell to find, but most certainly worth it, imo.
Oh, and I agree 100%--a Panzer Dragoon Tactical Strategy game for the DS would be teh killer.

So for me, the question is--if I already have Advance Wars DS and don't mind the cartoony theme, is there any particular reason I should want to pick this up? Sounds like they're fairly similiar in terms of gameplay.

Online play?
Good point--although at this point I've gotten rather online-WiFi-timid after having my posterior repeatedly handed to me in MarioKart for the past couple months now. (Stupid unemployed, summer-vacationing whipper snappers...)
At least I can still own at Animal Crossing. ;)
