Gamespot has a fresh preview up for Crysis, in which they've also hinted towards what kind of PC is needed to run the game

Crysis will feature out-of-the-box 32-bit, 64-bit, DirectX 9, DirectX 10, and multithreading support," he said. That's a lot of technical jargon, so we'll go over each point one by one. The important thing to keep in mind is that you won't have to worry about configuring all of these settings when you install the game, as Crysis will automatically configure itself based on what kind of hardware you have.

Thanks Norse for a similar submission.

I'm really thrilled about their engine. What I find strange is that there weren't any games taking advantage of the incredible Far Cry engine (at least not that I know of). IMHO it's more versatile than the Doom3 engine. It's great that they put an effort into including 64-bit and multithread support from the start.

Once again the Direct X 10 carrot is dangled in front of us. ...Grr.

This game is a reason to upgrade. I'm glad it will run on older models aswell, but knowing that it's going to be uber when Vista hits makes it better aswell.

Best start saving!

But will there be an actual fun game in the box? So far it looks very much like it's just another tech-demo.

None of the previews so far on this game have tried to go into detail as to how and in what areas dx10 will look better than dx9. Same with this preview as well inspite of them having apparently seen it running in dx10. Is it too hard for them to put into words?

Have you even seen the gameplay demos? Basically it's Farcry with improved graphics - that is enough for me. But on top of that, the developer has mentioned how they recognize the weak points of Farcry and will improve them.

The game will have a much better story.
It will not only be jungle landscape, but a frozen world and alien scenarios (on the ship etc.).

Regarding gameplay you have a point. We don't know if it's fun, but this is the same situation as with all game pre-launch hype. To make a guess, you would have too consider:

your trust in the developer and the evaluation of released information.

The Crytek guys made Farcry with fun gameplay and amazing graphics and it was their first title! They supported the game with improving patches for quite some time too. The Crysis videos look absolutely amazing and they would have to make one gigantic screw up, to not make the gameplay fun. I trust them too deliver what is promised. The same trust I do not have for certain other hype machines *cough* Peter M. *cough*

Um, don't a lot of games do this nowadays? I hope this doesn't mean we can't still configure things ourselves.

Far Cry multiplayer was a far cry from fun! </zing>

While I certainly think Crysis is gorgeous, I won't be in any rush to grab it if the attention given to the multiplayer component is anywhere near as lacking as that of Far Cry.

You always make me laugh Mr. Walken.

Yeah, multiplayer modes seem to have suffured a slow death in recent years. No decent co-op, nothing but deathmatch in MP maps, tis a shame really.

I really hate the fact that people ignore coop modes when they make a game these days... I love coop and think that it's a huge benefit to any game.
Descent 2 cooperative was FUN and challenging... Rainbow 6 was great in cooperative... and challenging... Titan Quest is about the only modern game I know of that has a really solid cooperative component and a weak pvp component (most people don't even know PVP is possible in Titan quest).

Weird how things go... probably cooperative got bastardized by 14 y/o idiots making pvp popular in CS.

Making co-op maps is like creating an entirely new module for your game, one that you have to balance just as much as your single-player campaign, well, you do if you want it to be any fun. PvP, on the other hand, is the easiest, as there aren't any 'enemies' to balance and everybody has the same weapons/items.

I'd blame it on the work required to do it properly, more than anything else.

Right. Even more with hugely scripted games, where the script depends on/is triggered by the player's location. Things get complicated as you cannot predict the location of the 2nd player in coop etc.
