Not satisfied with the free weekends DOD Source has twice offered, to drive home the game's upcoming booster pack (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?p=351267) Tripwire Interactive are giving you plebs complete access to Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 (http://www.redorchestragame.com/) for a full (working) week: the 2nd to the 7th of August. Stalin would be proud, and Hitler would probably do a little dance.

Put that trigger finger to rest and start excercising your grey matter. Point and click won't help you here: quick thinking is where it's at.

Pre-load isn't available yet, tell us when it is.
This game is incredibly boring. And filled with bugs.

Showing yourself up a bit there, eh?
What the fuck is that supposed to mean?

Actually, RO is really fun. It's quite intense and challenging as well. It isn't fast paced like DoD but it's a different type of game. It's more like a simulation moreso than a shooter. There is nothing like surviving an arty strike, affixing your bayonet and jumping into a trench to poke some Ruskies.

I only played the game for about a week after I bought it. It's fun and different than most online shooters but as of when I stopped there's just not enough quality content or good players. Hopefully the booster pack/free week helps somewhat, but 4 months for one new map and bug fixes isn't really that great.

I was actually part of the beta, way back when it was UT2K4, and it had a lot of problems then. I'm hoping a lot of these are improved - I might check this out.
It would be nice if I was given a bit more time though.

I'm looking forward to this!

I almost bought this last week, but now after seeing it in action I'm so glad I saved my money. It doesn't feel fixed much from the Unreal Mod version, and if you can actually find a populated server then you send about 15 minutes searching for any sign of the enemy. I do like the guns without crosshairs and the realism, but they pretty much sacrificed the fun for those things.

Running around a tank map as infantry by any chance? ;)
See, trying to convert people by calling them stupid is a sure-fire strategy. GG Varsity.

Nope. Regular map. I don't want to say the game is horrible, it still has potential. Maybe the patch they're adding will make things more interesting. The problem is that they use the Unreal Engine which is designed for large maps, but then make you move at normal speed. I like realism when it adds to a game, but when it becomes the focus over gameplay, it can really hurt the experience.

I can't say I agree, or have had that experience.

Was a really REALLY fun game when I last tried it (UT2k4). It can be slow and sneaky or fast and furious. The all-tank maps were great fun. I'll never get that freakishly loud "KLANNGGG!" riccochet sound out of my head.
Maybe i'll have to see about picking it up again sometime. I do kinda miss peering down the sights of my Mosin Nagant at some dirty (and soon to be dead) kraut. :)

I've been eyeballing it for a while now, I'm definitely game.
The mod was a lot of fun, til the griefers happened.

I used to play the hell out of this when it was a mod. I think this was probably the game where you could best see a front line develop, move, and morph without it being chaotic and spammy (as DoD tends to get). At that time there were literally 4 servers and only one or two that were ever populated. I figured if the servers were underpopulated then, it would be even worse when it went retail...but then again, it probably got more attention being on Steam. How are the server populations for this game, now?
Edit: Liquidize...I think you used to play around the same time I did, if you used a name similar to your EA handle. I remember you being good at the game, thus standing out in my mind.

I did the same as some others, pre-ordered it and only played it a week.
It was one of those nice games that got released a few months early.
IF the majority of bugs are gone then the only remaining issue is the players. If you do not wish to use voice chat or at least listen to others use it, then this game is not for you. It is more team based than most multiplayer games. I am comparing this to ones I have played: Vietcong, BF 1942, DoD, CS, Quake, UT, TFC, and even Tribes. It to me plays the closest to Tribes (good thing in my book).
I will be playing during the free week in hopes of a larger player base and possibly even servers with people on them.

Of course. Free games. Can't say no, no matter how bad.
