GameDaily (http://www.gamedaily.com/) has posted their hands-on preview (http://xbox.gamedaily.com/game/preview/?gameid=4761&id=709) including screenshots of Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run. The title is being developed for the PS2 and Xbox with a North American slated ship date of September 5, 2006.

Here's a bit from the article...
So, what's the big difference? Spy Hunter: Nowhere To Run involves some new on-foot segments that requires The Rock's character, Alex Decker, to get out of the car. He's on a dangerous mission against the evil forces of NOSTRA, who are out to steal government technology to strengthen their numbers. Unfortunately, this shopping list includes the Interceptor, and he must do everything in his power to stop them. The game will mix fast-paced racing segments with sequences where Decker must shoot and fight enemy agents, which is a big step for the series.

Translation for those who failed the PR Bullshit 101 course = It's a Driv3r clone with the Rock.

This is one of those times where the original spirit of the game just couldn't be captured in 3d. The original, mindless, endless top-down Spyhunter was a load of fun, but I really haven't enjoyed the XBox releases.

A big step into the overly-crowded generic action-shooter abyss, I would say.

Not that I was a huge fan of the series, but I hate when companies do this -- take a license that's known for a particular style of game, and throwing in some generic action element.

It doesn't look too bad, and hell, any game where you get to layeth the smackdown with Rocky deserves a chance.

The first PS2 Spyhunter was pretty good. It wasn't incredibly deep, but it was fun in many of the same ways the original was, and it had a good sense of "cool." Then when it made money, they decided to milk it for all it was worth, which always drags the quality down into the toilet. Now they're turning it into Driv3r, and no one can save it now.

If this game has the classic theme song from Spy Hunter, then that will probably be the best part of the whole game.

Even if the game turns out to be confident...but who really cares? Who has been on the edge of their seat, counting down the days until they get the chance to play the new Spy Hunter game (Now with 100% more THE ROCK!!)?
