Planet Gamecube (http://www.planetgamecube.com/) has posted screenshots (http://www.planetgamecube.com/gameArt.cfm?artid=11834) for the DS exclusive Spider-Man game, Spider-Man: Battle for New York. The game let's you play as Spider-Man or the Green Goblin and allows you to upgrade their various powers as the game progresses.
Looks rather bland...or is that just me?

That looks horrible. Should have made a cool 2d version instead.

I would have to see it in motion before judging.

It doesn't look too bad, but I doubt it would be something I'd want to play. It's sandbox or nothing.

The first Spider-Man game for the DS was terrible...what brought you to believe this game would be any different?
Rule Number 1 when it comes to handheld game purchases: Steer clear of games based on movie, comic book or TV franchises. If you thought those types of games are generally bad on consoles, wait until you play the cheapo quickly-slapped-together handheld versions of them.

Maybe because the second Spiderman DS game was enjoyable (this, of course, being the third)?

I can see they want some sort of style for the art, but it looks POOS

Its interesting how that works. I think TF2's cartoony bland textures look crap but thats style. This looks like crap and....its crap. Where is the line drawn? :)

This game is also going to be on GBA. I think they're basically sequels to the Ultimate Spider-Man games on the handhelds. The GBA one had decent graphics, but after about ten minutes, it just wasn't fun to play. At all.
The best handheld Spidey game I've played by far is the Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in for GBA. It actually had almost nothing to do with the movie, and mostly had you foiling a few petty criminals and fighting guys like Mysterio, the Rhino, Puma, Shocker, etc. It had some RPG elements, and missions were varied enough to keep things interesting (unlike Ultimate Spider-Man, which pretty much had two mission types: run to the right and beat on badguys, and run to the right and beat on badguys with a timer added). It had some god-awful 3D segments thrown in, but they were ignorable for the most part.

On the money, for the most part. The one exception I can think of right away is the Lilo and Stitch game for GBA. Instead of being a lame fetch quest/platformer, it is actually a side scrolling shooter, pretty much like Metal Slug (but with monkeys with guns!) The only flaw with that game was the lame password save system, it would have been killer with battery back up.
I agree the game looks quite generic.
They should just hurry up and make a Maximum Carnage/Seperation Anxiety combo pack, and release that on DS...
