According to IGN (http://www.ign.com), Crave has decided not to bring its latest poker title, World Championship Poker: Featuring Howard Lederer "All In" to the PS3, although it was posted otherwise on The ESRB's website. It is in developement for the Xbox 360.
Here is the article at IGN (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/720/720642p1.html)

OH NOES NOT ANOTHER SHITTY POKER GAME!
Seriously, if this was a big game I'd be depressed, but it's another incarnation of a really poor game in the first place. NO ONE has been able to make a good poker game. The only way to play good poker on a computer/console is to play against live people, and even then most people don't know how to play.

IGN is stupid.
IGN collectively has poor intellectual/mental level? I dont think thats really fair. Maybe we should break it down into sections. I think the "Xbox360" link at the top of the page is moderately intelligent. Be honest man. That link knows 124 digits of pi. I think the logo at the top is a little.... well you know, retarded. Sometimes it talks to itself. Thats not healthy

Stacked uses some really high-end AI from the University of Alberta. I've never played it, but I talked with the developers about it a while back. It supposedly learns from your play style and adapts. It might be worth a rental.

When a mainstream game, especially poker, gets nixed on a Sony console...it's bad news. Now, when we had the Xbox and PS2, the PS2 had every title, little mainstream games and so much more that the Xbox did NOT have.
I myself don't care for a library of shitty mainstream titles, but for what the console giants are going for, -1 for Sony.
Well it justifies the purchase of the next gen to the guys that only bought Madden.

Since when is poker on a console mainstream?
yes, there are a lot of losers who seem to like to watch Poker on TV, but I'm not sure I'd go so far as to call it mainstream.
Anyways, I think if you make something like Poker, you're kind of silly to not port it to every platform you can.

That's my point. It's the type of game you port. Ok, if mainstream is not the word, how about just casual. Everybody knows 'playstation'. SO they buy it. That dude doesn't care. He likes poker, he sees a poker game, and plays it. Maybe for a few hours. Just like Deer Hunter. That's what I mean by mainstream. Although now I feel like an idiot for explaining myself.
Anyway, if they aren't porting it, obviously something's wrong.

Why wouldn't they bring the poker game to the PS3? It should be dirt easy to make a port and cash in on the work that has already been done.
Not porting a card game is just downright dumb. This should be on everything, from damn cellphones to the PS3.

I bought it and I shed a tear just thinking about it. The AI is extremely poor and unrealistic (players go all in all the time with NOTHING), the interface is abhorrent and the play is extremely slow.
I was really looking forward to this game but it was a huge letdown. I can't imagine it would be THAT hard to develop AI For a poker game. You give each player it's own particular type of play style, and then vary it a bit over time so that they stay unpredictable.

all the Reviews said the AI was absolute shit.
not surprising, since it was made by canadians, but what can you do?

Any game cancellation is bad news, but I think this might actually be worse. This poker game seems like one of those Walmart-type games, like Deer Hunter and that stuff. As much as we all laugh at those type of games, they still sell pretty well to that "budget gamer" crowd. Money lost is money lost, period.

What "budget gamer" is going to buy a PS3? Seriously, people who have a chance of buying a PS3 will not care about a poker game. By the time that people who do care about these kind of games get their PS3, there will probably be at least 5 other poker games available for the system.
It's a poker game, not Gran Turismo.

I'm still totally baffled as to why someone would cancel this game. It sounds like a sure-fire money-maker, especially if all the logic and art is complete for the 360 version.

Well, after shellin' out $700+ on a new PS3 and extras, I'm sure a low-price game might look pretty good around then. Hell, it made that new Test Drive game alot more interesting.

This is a dangerous slope!
If the PS3 is only home to high-profile games, the game library will be much smaller. With a smaller library, there will be less appeal. With less appeal, there will be fewer games sold.
There is no denying that a lot of the PS2’s success comes from its large and diverse library of games. By saying that PS3 owners, “will not care about a poker game” you are limiting the number of people to whom the PS3 appeals.
Dangerous teritority.
Who would buy a 360 and then pay for Poker? Lots of people.

This is exactl ywhat I've been saying in my posts. It must not be worth the effort and money if they don't even port this title. I feel like an idiot for explaining myself thrice.
But someone already shot me down about my point.

Maybe the resources necessary to develop for the PS3 are costly enough that ports won't be "automatic." Is it particularly hard to develop for?
If so, that's bad for gamers who will own one.

What kind of casual games have been available for a console at launch? Xbox360 didn't have any. DS didn't have any. PSP and PS2? None. Why spend the money to port a game to a platform that is only going to have hardcore early adopters?
I am also going to point out that the cost of making this game is not unsubstantial. Dev Kits costs well over 30k and you need a couple in order to not stall production. They would be spending a lot of money on a game that caters to no one on the PS3 at launch.

Was this scheduled to be a launch game or was it scheduled to be available post-launch?
Wasn't Poker available on Xbox Live at launch?

who the fuck cares?
Poker on a console is like wearing tennis shoes to hike across a volcano-- it's just pure stupid.
Go play some damn poker with your friends in real life and stop sitting on the fucking couch you goddamn lazy bastards.

-TNC-The same could be said for any game that emulates real life. Table tennis? Uno? Why the hell would anyone want to play those kinds of games? In fact, people do. The casual gaming market is huge.
