Also from Siliconera is word that Sony has topped the lineup of their bargain-priced greatest hits collection with 5 new titles (http://www.siliconera.com/2006/07/24/new-greatest-hits-games-leaked-by-circuit-city/#respond):
Jak X: Combat Racing
Ratchet Deadlocked
Shadow of the Colossus
Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves
SOCOM 3
Shadow of the Colossus for $19.99, not too shabby.

I might have to pick up Shadow of the Colossus, something of a steal at twenty bucks.
I have really been getting the itch to buy a new game, somewhat tempted to pick up Liberty City Stories, and/or now Colossus.
Liberty City Stories is good for a handheld game, but it's not good for the ps2. Pick up Shadow of the Colossus.

SotC is the only game in years to have actually evoked an emotional response from me. When it was over I almost went into a frothing rage for more. I absolutely love that game and I am pissed that Ueda takes so long between projects and that he works for Sony, a company that I intrinsically hate.

SotC is absolutely worth $20 (IMHO), although the ugly red "greatest hits" label on the cover makes the cover art a little less pretty. I assume there's no new content with the GH version (usually the case, although I think Silent Hill 2 GH had some extra content?)?

If you run out and buy it this week, I bet you can find some regular copies marked at 19.99. I've been waiting for Sly 3 and the latest Ratchet to fall to this price. Looks like I'll have some fun platforming action soon.

Oh man...definently gonna get SotC soon. I just beat the original Sly Cooper, and it was good...but I didn't feel like going through all the Master Thief Sprints.
I may pick up a copy of Ratchet Deadlocked also. One thing is that I hear there is less platforming. Still...the Ratchet games rule.
But I must finish with the rest of the games I own. ZoE 2, Mega Man X Collection, and HL2/Episode 1. Doh, and Starcraft
I've been waiting for both God of War and Shadow of the Colossus to be $19.99 and thankfully all my waiting paid off!

The talking octopus speaks the truth -- many stores just tag their current stock with a GH sticker (or not even) and don't get the red-label copies until their current stock runs out. Grab those while you can.
I, of course, snagged SotC a long time ago at twice the price. But it was totally worth it

Beautiful! Sly 3 and Ratchet: Deadlocked are both hitting my 'to buy' list very quickly.

Sly 3 was a quality game and SotC should be in most ppl's gaming libraries if it isn't already. I lost interest in the Ratchet franchise when it started to get more "arena" than platforming, but @ $20 I might check this one out.

Pretty nice... Though, I've heard Ratchet: Deadlocked isn't as interesting as the previous Ratchet and Clank games.

Yes, I have to agree with Kefkataran on getting Sly 3 and Ratchet. I wish they would come out with those on PSP.

Sweet. I am about to acquire a ps2 for the first time in a long time, and it's cool that there is a great library of 20$ games that I haven't yet played to pick up.

Shadow of the Colossus is one of the best games to be released on the consoles in the past 5 years.

It's true that there's less platforming, but there's still a good mix of play styles. I really recommend trying the game co-op, as it was basically designed with co-op in mind. The robot buddies in single player are mostly to fill the role of a second player.
Now that SotC will be cheap and widely available, nobody has an excuse for missing it. You've been warned.

Deadlocked is a decent game that I grew bored of eventually, simply because the shoot-em-up action ended up becoming very repetetive, as if the designers ran out of ideas. I would say that, even though Deadlocked and Up Your Arsenal are very similar, the later is simply better, and I recommend you get that one for $19.99 instead if you haven't already.

Shadow of the Colossus will finally be mine! I knew that I had kept my PS2 for something other than Guitar Hero.
That is it though, no new games until I have beaten Half Life 2, Killer 7, Paper Mario 2.

Deadlocked NEEDS to be played co-op. It is very fun playing with a friend (not like that you perverts!), especially if you like mindless killing with crazy weapons.

Colossus was one of the only PS2 games I was ever able to enjoy when I owned that system. God I'd kill for a PC port but Sony would never do that. One of the best games of the generation.
If you have not yet bought Shadow of the Colossus, now there's absolutely no reason not to. Best game ever.

I thought Colossus was a bit overrated. Interesting, but not Ico cool to me.

Yeah in my opinion Shadow of the Colossus is the greatest game ever made, despite the choppy framerate during some of the bosses. It was one of those games that had me up till 5 in the morning because I just couldn't put it down.

Yeah, I've heard Deadlocked isn't as good as the others, but honestly how could I go wrong at 20 bucks unless it was complete shit?
SotC and Ico were neat puzzlers with a pretty visual flair. Earthshattering amazing though? I didn't find that. I think their awed reception has to do more with a dearth of style in the industry, but that may just be me.

Is co-op online? If not, it's a bit silly to say the game needs to be played co-op (especially since the infrastructure for that isn't that great to begin with on the PS2) when previous installments in the series were perfectly fun in Single Player alone.

Wow, I've been meaning to grab SotC. I am really hooked of God of War, I finally got a chance to play it on Sunday - late PS2 bloomer here - and I am loving ever second of it.

Except the whole game really is designed for cooperative offline play. Even if you play alone the game gives you two AI partners. Online cooperative play would obviously be awesome, but Insomniac can only push the PS2 so far (of course even Resistence on PS3 doesn't offer online coop :( ).
It's a good game, and they really did mix things up, but I think the Ratchet formula is getting pretty stale. You'll certainly have fun with it for a while, but it's definitely time for something new. Deadlocked also has the second best explosions on the PS2 (after ZOE2).

I think Sony should make a $60 Ratchet & Clank perfect collection, 4 games and a bonus DVD.

Wow. I never thought that SotC actually would have sold enough to be a Greatest Hits. Awesome news though. Everyone must go buy that now (assuming they were negligent and never got it when it was released).
Sly 3 is great as well, though I still think that Sly 2 was the best of the series. How Jak X Racing got to be a Greatest Hit boggles my mind. Let's take the worst part of the Jak games and build an entire game around it. Yeesh.
Pretty good batch of games for the Greatest Hits pile though. You can't really go wrong on Sly 3, Ratchet or SotC for $20.

I bought SotC when it came out, I was really psyched about it. I rushed home, beat the first colossus, really liked the game, and put it down for a bit to come back to shortly...
Cut to about 3 weeks ago, I finally decided to go back and play some more, I've gone through another 7 colossi and I'm still really enjoying it. I pick it up, play through 1 or 2 of them and then put it down to not burn out, really good this way, as long as you don't forget the controls...
The last one I beat actually managed to kill me a few times, my first deaths in the game to that point, so it's a pretty nice learning curve, I'm only half way done:) Really enjoying it so far, just hoping they don't get frustratingly tough, I hate when games do that. I think half life 1 and 2 have great gameplay and don't get excessively tough at the end(besides the awful xen levels in 1, but those are a different type of difficult)

Part of me is still tempted to buy a PS2 and catch up on some awesome games. I even bought five or six PS2 titles in preparation for getting a system but never got one. I traded all the games in for about $5 each, even though I paid $20 for each of them. :(
Oh well, I really don't need a couple dozen more games to play - I already have 50+ that haven't been completed.

actually its Sony that tags their own backstock with the red-labels before sending it to stores. Anything you find without a red-label or sticker is stock that's been sitting in the store for awhile.

Which means it's dusty and possibly OLD. Do not buy such a game!
I kid. I do this too. If I can find some old stock at the new GH price, I just grab it instead of the GH version. That said, I am not such a fetishist that I can't buy a game because it has the GH label on. As long as the game inside still plays the same, I'm there.

SotC is very nice. Well worth fullprice, doubly worth 20.
I agree with the comment about style.
It is something that is missing in most games lately.
ICO and Shadow have it in spades.

Sotc was alright when i played it, but the best game of the last few years, definitely not. I think i will give Sotc another try, though. If i see an original copy for $20, i will probably pick it up.
If i had a choice though, i would play ICO over it anyday.

But I must finish with the rest of the games I own.
Heheh...I still have about 30+ games in my back catalogue to finish, and I am always torn between sitting down and putting time into a game I am bored with or getting a new exciting one. I actually have to finish X collection 2. I finished X1, X2 and X3....
I am stoked about the price drops, and will be picking up SotC and Sly 3.

Goddamn Killer 7...Its been sitting on my shelf for a year and I am still not interested enough to actually play it and finish it.

I guess I am a fetishist then, but let me try to explain. It's not that its a cheap version, or its not the original or anything, its just the colouring of the damn box. One of my favourite parts of having a game collection is having the big shelf next to my tv with all my games all organized (by system, and alphabetically). Normal ps2 games have black spines (the ps2 label part), and GH have red...so when I put just one GH game in my collection, it looks out of place and breaks up the look of all the others.
Plus its easy to find the older non-GH version of a game, as long as you get it before its been GH for a long time.
The only GH version game I own is Castlevana SOTN, and that was because I happened apon it in a pawn shop for 2(!)$$

I wouldn't feel bad about that. It has terrible gameplay. I was able to finish it somehow, but it took a lot of endurance.
