Pro-G (www.pro-g.co.uk) has taken a long hard hands-on look at Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/xbox/mortal_kombat_armageddon/preview-241.html), the series' swansong on the current-gen platforms. As it goes, it's really rather good.
Mortal Kombat Armageddon (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/xbox/mortal_kombat_armageddon/preview-241.html), the seventh game (Trilogy and Ultimate excluded) in the series of brutal fighters, is headed to home consoles later this year, and based on the Xbox version I was able to get some hands-on time with, promises to be the best yet. Now, as a reader I can imagine how many times you've heard the "promises to be the best yet" line, but seriously folks, Armageddon is shaping up to be the wet dream of every die-hard fan, including yours truly.

I'd probably get it if they released it on the 360 but I'm sure it won't be on the back compat. list so I'll have to pass. Plus no achivements :(

I've never thought much of the 3D MK games.
Even the last two, which were supposedly "good" didn't impress me. I think they have a horrible fighting engine.

I agree. They were good at the time they came out, but MK really hasn't made the transition well. The last good MK in my opinion was 3.

I really liked Shaolin Monks. I hope the fighting system will be less like regular Mortal Kombat and a bit more fluid feeling this time around, as I really, really, really want to love the MK series.

I liked the last two MK's. While it's in no way an excellent fighter, the atmosphere is still there, and the MK storyline kontinues.

Boon said they were working with Microsoft and were trying very hard to make it backwards compatible on release, but he couldn't guarantee it.

I have like 500 wins on the last MK for Xbox Live. I absolutely loved it.

I used to really love the MK series (I agree with a previous poster that it peaked at 3--Ultimate was good also), but the series seems to have gone the way of the Tony Hawk games, in that they release a new chapter each year (or sometimes it seems that it's not even that long between releases).

Still, if it's a good game, I salute them. Perhaps I'm just getting too old to appreciate the progress that has been made with the latest iterations. :)

OMG kan't wait for this one! I mean k'mon... make my own fatalities and karakters? What took them so long!?! And kudos BTW to Midway's brand management for realizing the evolved English language doesn't need the letter "C". Kan I get a "MORTAL KOMBAT!!!"?

That really sounds more sarcastic than jaded. You should work on it.
