Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com/) is reporting that Mark DeLoura, Sony's Manager of Developer Relations, has resigned from the company and is joining Ubisoft North America as their Technical Director.
You can read more here (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=10186).
In a high-profile personnel loss for Sony, Gamasutra has learned that the company's longstanding Manager of Developer Relations at Sony Computer Entertainment America, Mark DeLoura, has departed the firm for a new technical director position at Ubisoft North America.
DeLoura, who is well-respected within the industry and serves on the Game Developers Conference advisory board, has chosen to leave his position in the months leading up to the PlayStation 3's release, and the move is likely to spark new concerns about the readiness of Sony for the November launch date.
A significant departure at a crucial time for Sony.

Wow, that's really a killer for Sony as they try and get games out for the system...

Come on everyone! This is GOOD NEWS (tm) for Sony. This is obviously one less person they have to pay every month. All those extra $$$ can now be spent on Cell Q&A testing!

Another smart exec gets off the Titanic.
Another smart exec gets off the Titanic.
Hahaha, biased as it is, that's pretty damn funny.
As for the news - sure, he was the manager, but is it really that big of a blow? Do any of us here know Mark DeLoura from name alone? (I don't - asking around)
Sony could very well have someone all set to jump in his place. Sure, it doesn't look like sunshines and smiles, but it isn't devastating.

He is very well respected within the developer community and has worked for CMP Media in the past. Given the recent rumors/grumblings from developers complaining about how difficult the PS3 is to develop for, DeLoura's departure is telling.

Looking on the other side of the coin, have you guys noticed UbiSoft has really been picking up steam? They have been making some smart moves lately, or maybe it's just my biased for the Wii ;) (they are one of the primary developers for it).
I'm curious if this is just one of a couple of guys, or if this is a trend that we'll start to see closer to launch. One guy leaving isn't a big deal, but if we see a few more of the big guns seek elsewhere for employment, that's never a good thing.

Good point! With the exception of GRAW Chapter 2 on Xbox 360 costing $15, Ubisoft seem to be doing everything right these days!

Bear in mind that Sony's PR department recently experienced some significant personnel losses.

This does not bode well for Sony. That's the second(?) person to jump ship. Head hunted? Leaving a sinking ship? Or just coincidence? Time will tell....

Ubisoft is a safer bet than Sony. Ha!

Yeah, I had forgotten about that. Perhaps more are coming in the near future...
Ah, I stand corrected. I guess it is a decent kick in the nuts, then.

More bad news for Sony. Most of his team had quit already is what I've heard. Good news for Ubi.

Gawd! There's only anti-sony news on this site! And like...every other gaming site on the net. Why can't you people just close your eyes and open your wallets?
This is obvious evidence of X360 fanboism.

For those of you, who don't know what this guy did, and thus why he is important to Sony, I asked Ozymandius the other day. His answer:
The head of developer relations manages a team of technical folks who go out to developers and help them make games on their hardware (in Mark's case, the Playstation 2, Playstation 3, and PSP). So basically he was the guy helping make sure Playstation 3 game developers were getting what they needed to make and ship their games.

Sony isn't sinking like the Titanic.
They are rising high up in the air.
So this staff change is more like rearanging seats on the Hindenburg.
Thank you Steven. :D
