GameSpot is reporting (http://www.gamespot.com/ds/action/castlevaniaportraitofruin/news.html?sid=6154504&mode=previews) that Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin will offer a two-player cooperative mode that can be played either locally or online.
Cooperative games will be played on special stages which, although the translation wasn't entirely clear, we're assuming refers to levels different to those found in the single-player game, and the monsters contained therein will vary according to whether the game is online or local because of technical limitations. Also supported locally and online will be a shop mode, where you can buy, sell, and trade items with other players. The in-game music is being composed by Castlevania veteran Michiru Yamane, and Yuzo Koshiro (Sonic the Hedgehog, and Shenmue).
This is turning out be a 2D gamer’s dream come true.

Wow. This just became my most wanted game this year outside of Wii titles. I will actually be able to play Co-op with my friends back in St. Louis. Kick ass.

It's an offshoot of what Evil Avatar himself said, blinded by ignorance. In fact, he still stands by his statements, as ridiculous as we know them now to be.

Hopefully the modes are tailored so that it adds to the overall experience instead of being a cheap throw-away.
But does the online play function in that you search for random people to hook up with, or are friend codes required?

Co-op to me is the full single-player game with a friend, not these custom "special" levels that you can play with a friend. I'm glad they didn't make any competitive game modes in here, because you'll just have cheaters running rampant like everyone else.
Dev's keep getting my hopes up with their impression of co-op, I want a full co-op option from beginning to end, every level.

Good...I need some more games for the DS that interest me. I picked up Bomberman for 10 bucks at Circut City this weekend. And while it's good...it just doesn't do much for me. I've played through SMB twice....my sexy DS Lite is calling me and Tetris is starting to lose its edge.

Ba, if you can't find more interesting games after Tetris and SMB, then you just aren't looking.

Here's the list of games I've played/owned:
Meteos
Nanostray
Mario Kart
Advanced Wars
SMB
Elektroplankton (not good)
Tetris
Metroid Prime Hunters (not good)
Bomberman
I will not be purchasing Animal Crossing under any conditon. I'd like to check out Sonic Rush. Phoenix Wright just has no appeal to me. Maybe Trauma Center, but from what I've seen it just doesn't look like my cup of tea.

You should try Age of Empires for the DS. I really enjoyed it. Viewtiful Joe was especially good too. I didn't care for Sonic Rush at first, but it grew on me. The Music in Sonic Rush is the best, it reminds me of Jet Set Redio.

If you like turn based strategy, I highly recommend Age of Empires. I can't put that thing down once I start playing, definately the #1 game in my collection right now.
I also just got True Swing Golf as it was down to $20 at Best Buy and that one is pretty good as well (but then, I like golf sims). Really good use of the dual screen in that one.
I will not be purchasing Animal Crossing under any conditon.
I have it and I completely see where you are coming on that one. I got it because I enjoy open ended (sandbox) style play, and everyone who has talked about this game has spoken really highly of it. However, after playing it a while, it seems that this game would appeal to pre-teen girls or at least very young kids. I'm going to try playing it more, but that is the first impression I have been left with.

Not sure if I'm excited about Castlevania. This probably will appeal to the people who have played the series from the start, but I've never touched it before, and to put out an NES quality game in this day and age for full price? Don't think so.

Castlevania? Metroid Pinball? Admittedly, I use my DS as a GBA player most times. By this fall I think the DS will spit out a huge amount of great games like it did last year. And yeah, I don't think Trauma Center would be to your liking.
I also picked up Polarium at the CC sale and it's pretty addicting. Brain-wracking, but pretty fun if you like solving puzzles.

This is what it took you to get won over on Castlevania? You should go back and play the other GBA and DS Castlevania's, which tended to kick all shades of ass.

You definitely, absoultely, positively need Metriod Pinball. Castlevania DS is also awesome. Like Kamalot, I didn't really did Sonic Rush when I first bought it, but I picked it up again a few months later after I had finished all my other DS stuff and I had a lot of fun with it. But there is a barrage of new stuff coming soon with Star Fox, Yoshi's Island 2, Kirby DS, Sword of Mana, Final Fantasy 3, Mario 3 on 3, Dragon Warrior Rocket Slime, and others all in the new three months.
Bap, you must buy Warioware. Even a hardcore DS hater (friend of mine) picked it up and thought it was hilarious and fun as hell. In fact, he almost went out and bought a DS that day (didn't have the cash).
Trauma Center is a surprisingly good game, as is Mario and Luigi Parters in Time.
I'd also recommend the Metroid Pinball game (but only if you like pinball), and the Kirby game is probably the best DS title (and probably the greatest Kirby game ever). None of those are on your list, and all of them warrant, at the very least, a try.

QFT. Kirby is definitely the game I was the most impressed with on DS. Seriously if you haven't tried it, then go buy it. Right now.

Actually I tried Wario Ware at a demo station and didn't care for it at all.
I'll give Metroid Pinball a try for sure.

I dug Bomberman, baps, but only for multiplayer. It's a blast playing "voice command" bombs with four other people. You have to actually yell into the microphone to lay down bombs (or in another mode, yell when you want to detonate). I thought the single player was pretty crappy though and ridiculiously hard.

Sonic Rush, i thought, was an awesome game. I grew up playing Sonic and i had grown tired of the 3D crap that was being put out after the Dreamcast releases. Also, this game borrows a LOT from Sonic Pocket Adventures for the Neo Geo Pocket. Trauma Center is also amazingly good and frustrating. If you liked the Tony Hawk games *1-4, before they fucked it up, y'know* S8land is great. The online features are some of the most awesome i've seen in a DS game.

I've heard Tony Hawk DS was a lot of fun. If I ever see it sub $10 again (like it was during the Circuit City sale) I might have to pick it up.

I think at the end of missions it gives you a code that you can use to enter into the Nanostray site.

I really need to pick up a lot of DS titles before they become impossible to find. I missed out on some GBA greats because I waited too long - hopefully that doesn't happen to me again.
More on topic, I buy these Castlevania's and then never play them!! I have Circle of the Moon, Symphony of the Night, and the first DS one, and I've put less than an hour into each! What's wrong with me? :(

I need the Castlevania Double Pack. Then I'll have all the GBA ones. I'm almost done with Circle of the Moon. Damn that game can be a real bitch at times.
I'm really yearning to replay Simon's Quest again. Is it only a GBC game, or is it for the GBA as well? I bought it when I was a kid and haven't played it since.

Simon's Quest was an NES game. There might have been a Gameboy version, but not that I'm aware of.

I think there was a rerelease, but I'd like to play it on the GBA/DS. It was one of my first NES games as a kid, and I was confused to all hell. Before then I had never played a game that resembled an RPG, so using my brain was alien to me, like it still is with most of the community here on EvAv.

I'd really like to play it again too. I had it on the NES but got stuck after a while. I have very fond memories of the game - I'll be sure to pick it up on the Wii's virtual console if and when it becomes available. If I get a Wii that is - if the system "works out" then I'm there. :)
