You can't cast magic missle, there's nothing to attack.
I'm attacking...the..the...Darkness!

And behold...3 PS3/360 Screenshots (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15426) for your viewing pleasure.

I found this quote from a interview Game Informer had with Starbreeze:

GI: What do you like about working on the PS3? How about the Xbox 360? Will there be any major differences between the two versions?

Högdahl: So far the two versions look pretty much the same – quite unsurprisingly, since we use the same shader source code and content for both platforms. They will be identical gameplay-wise. There will only be very minor cosmetic differences, such as the PS3 will have better quality video for the in-game TVs and on the Xbox 360 we have a bit more room for textures in memory.
I found this on a Norwegian forum, and the link to the actual interview didn't work. But it sounds legit.

Interesting. Guess this has to do with the video chipset having it's own memory seperate from the main system on the 360, which was supposed to allow for more texture throughput (and to avoid bottlenecking the graphics chipset).

You sir, have never been to vegas! It only costs about 100 for two attractive ones.

This was one of my favourite comics of all time, and was perfect for a video game.

Oddly, and I can't believe I'm saying this, it would be perfect for a 3rd person style of game.

Ugh, I feel dirty.

Don't feel dirty, a simple change from first to third person abstracts the hero from the player and allows the narrative to be structured around an omnipotent, omniscient observer. Third person feels more like a book or movie, while first person games that try and create an identity for the hero that is different from the players' identity don't tend to feel right.

I just checked the site. I can confirm for you that the quote is indeed legit.

I think you have things backwards. The PS3 has seperate system and video memory. The obvious advantage to the seperate memory is the ability for the video card to utilize the full bandwidth to its memory as well as splitting renders between the two types of memory for increased bandwidth for frame buffer effects (I think that's the lingo for it...hehe). The 360 has to split the memory bandwidth between CPU and GPU requests. The advantage to the shared memory on the 360 is that it's easier to code for, and you can easily leverage more than 50% of it for your textures and renders. If you don't code for the unique architecture of the PS3 then the 360 will have that type of advantage in general, it seems. It's the exclusives where the PS3's split memory architecture will really shine.

BTW, the video on the TVs will be better on the PS3 because of blu-ray. They're compressing the shit out of the video on the Xbox 360.

I loved the comic back in the day, when it was actually new. I hope the butcher is in the game, along with the bathtub full of gore...mmm...gore.

This game looks good, but I wish Starbreeze would hurry up and put out Enclave 2.

Wishfull thinking...?

No, I've been reading the "360 Uncloaked" book, they go into a big part about how they have seperate video memory and makes it so the GFX chip doesn't have to use the system bus as much, which NVIDIA wasn't offering as a solution. (NVIDIA, who then went to Sony), which was a big reason they decided on ATI. If the PS3 does have this as well, so be it, but the 360 definitely does.

Edit: Here you go:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360

"Graphics Processing Unit
Xbox 360 GPU; note the smaller eDRAM die to the left of the main Xenos die.

The "Xenos" GPU is a custom chip designed by ATI. (Developed under the name "C1", sometimes "R500")[16] The chip contains two separate silicon dies: the parent GPU and the daughter eDRAM."

"500 MHz 10 MB daughter embedded DRAM framebuffer (90 nm process, 105 million transistors)"

Edit Edit: And here's the bit you refered to:

512 MB 700 MHz GDDR3 RAM (Total system memory is shared with the GPU via the unified memory architecture)

So I guess the 360 actually has 10 megs more RAM than the PS3 does. LOL.

Ok, you're talking about the daughter die EDRAM. The beyond3d.com guys were crazy for it at one point. That was supposed to make 4xAA basically free, but it hasn't really worked out that way in practice so far. I'm not really sure how the EDRAM works in the whole scheme of things, but I do know that it can only really be used for some tasks, and not others. It's not really a 2nd memory pool for textures or frame buffers, etc.

I was referring to the PS3 having seperate pools of 256MB of memory. Both have independent busses, whereas the 360 has one shared bus for 512MB of shared RAM. This makes it so that the 360 is easier to program for, since memory is memory, but the PS3 graphics card can split its renders between memory pools. The end result is that the PS3 can effectively get 1.5-2x the bandwidth as the 360 from the video card to memory, but it's a bitch to code it that way. Starbreeze decided to ignore that aspect of the PS3's architecture, and code all the graphics in the video ram, not split between memory pools. It's just easier that way. I don't think the EDRAM will factor much into that issue. That's my understanding of it, anyway (why the textures would be a little larger on the 360...it's not limited to 256MB video memory).

Well, I'll wait to see it in practice, as there's always a lot of talk and numbers Sony throws out, and it's never actually lived up to any claim in the past. Any way you chalk it up, it's still 10MB more memory than the PS3. ;)

Haha. Fair enough. I'm not a developer, so I can't say which way will be faster...I was just trying to explain why the textures might be larger on the 360. ;)
