View Full Version : No SmackDown vs. Raw On PS3 Until Holiday 2007
Following reports that the upcoming WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/news/24-07-2006-3237.html) has been canned for the PS3, a THQ rep has clarified the story.
Speaking to Pro-G this morning a THQ rep gave the following statement:
The next instalment in our perennial SmackDown franchise is slated for release across multiple game systems this holiday. The highly anticipated WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/news/24-07-2006-3237.html) is scheduled to ship for Xbox 360, PSP and PlayStation 2 in November. Consistent with our goal of delivering the highest quality content across all next-gen platforms, we have decided to postpone the debut of the SmackDown series on PlayStation 3 until the holiday 2007 timeframe.

I don't really see this as that big a deal. There wont be that many PS3s in stores to really justify making a big game like Smackdown. I'm not into wrestling but those games are hugely popular.

Agreed. This is a smart move on the part of THQ. Strange to think the game will have an entire extra year of development time however.

Just a wrestling game. Why do people play that?

I'm sure it's a timing thing ... ie: when they got PS3 devkits, and how long it would take them to make a proper version of the game

Not too big of a deal because it's a wrestling game. But wasn't the PS and PS2 known for getting almost every port of a game, especially wrestling?

Same reason folks make meaningless posts under topics they have no interest in, I suppose.

Wrestling games are hugely popular. To some people it will be a big deal.

Agreed. I know many people who were holding out on a 360 for this game, even though it was being made for the 360. They actually feel this is a series that belongs on a Sony console. Now it's not gonna happen. If you need to put it in perspective, this is a much more minor version of what happened when MS bought Bungie and it seemed Halo would never release for the Mac when it was supposed to be the Mac's killer app. Again, I realize this isn't quite as big a deal, but work with me here.
I'm very curious as to why this did occur. Most likely they received the dev kits too late. But I wonder if this adds credibility to the claims that the PS3 is hard to develop for.

No matter how the SDF will try to spin it, losing the next-gen version of a million selling game for an entire year is important.

This is a pretty big deal none of these games have sold less then 2 million and up until now were sony exclusives.

This is how I see it:
It won't hurt PS3 sales, it will still sell out.
It will probably give a small boost 360 sales if the game is done right. There are some hardcore wrassling fans out there. However, the history of the WWE has been spotty on MS consoles. Raw, Raw II and Wrestlemania 21 are drek.
All in all, a minor boost for the 360, a very slight loss for the PS3.
