IGN is reporting from the San Diego Comic Con that LucasArts is pledging support for all next generation consoles, including the Nintendo Wii (http://wii.ign.com/articles/720/720398p1.html):

During the Q&A session, a younger gamer took the microphone and asked if the company would be showing support for the newest motion-controlled Nintendo console. Sansweet's responded simply by stating the likeness between the Wii controller and a lightsaber, followed by a statement that LucasArts would be supporting every next generation system.

All I'm saying is classic Lucasarts adventure games on the virtual console is what we need.

All I'm saying is that classic LucasArts adventure games on any system are what we need.

I think wii, with it's controllers abillity to act like a laser pointer, is the only console that could do them justice from a control standpoint.

I tried playing Broken Sword on the PS1, and as much fun as that game appeared to be, and as involved as I was in it, I couldn't get past the bad control was just too much to deal with. (and the ridiculous load times)

Just hurry up and release that lightsaber game already, LucasArts! Then we can all be like the Star Wars Kid :p

Oh hell yeah. That would be the stuff of dreams.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a Tie Fighter sequel, and the Wii seems like it could work pretty well as a controller for that.

This is about as shocking as Sony making PS3 games.

Considering that within almost everyones top 10 ideas for a Wii game is "Lightsaber, KTHNXBI"

Good news for Nintendo. Though I'm still not completely sold on the lightsaber game idea, as there's no way to provide force feedback when you strike something. Though it'll still be fun I'm sure.

Heh, I don't know that you need much force feedback. A lightsabre will cut through pretty much anything easily. Except those big metallic doors - those take a little work. ;)

To be fair, LucasArts never got on the gravy train during the initial Wii unveiling. They could have thrown out a simple demo of a lightsaber game and everyone would be drooling over it. This is why it's now commonly believed that they're not taking the system very seriously compared to the PS3 or 360.

If this is actually as fun as it looks, I'm sold... might buy a Wii ...
Definitely won't be buying a PS3

I mean when you collide with other lightabers. ;)A careful job of scripted reactions and a little procedural animation could have an enemy Jedi dodging/parrying your lightsaber swings. Of course lack of collision does suck, and there's no arguing that.

I thought there was to be a rumble pack? Fake force feedback would be pretty easy and convincing, I think.

TrackZero's point is that when you collide with other lightsabers your actual arms will keep swinging while your virtual lightsaber cannot pass through; effectively screwing up the immersion factor and your controls. How you guys are not getting this is astounding. It's the biggest and most obvious flaw of this idea.

How hard are you planning on swinging your arms around? I mean, I don't picture you jumping around your living room, control in both hands, flailing wildly. I see you sitting on the couch, control in one hand, twisting your wrist. I don't think having jarring force feedback to stop your arm in motion is either necessary or realistic.

If they can make a game that even sort of resembles sword fighting in 3D space, that in and of itself would be amazing. Remember, up until now the control options for lightsaber combat have been, "Press A" or "Move the joystick left." Complaining that the Wii won't arrest your arm in motion is like bitching at the guy who just gave you a Porche, "But you didn't fill it up."

That's a good point. I mean you may stike wil all ferocity downwards, hoping to slice your opponent, only to find they have dodged/blocked it, and you now have a hole in your stomach. Though that is only one little niggle. It has huge potential, and I for one can't wait to see the fruits of this.

The more I hear about Wii support, the less im hearing about companies supporting this wiimote thing of theirs. It's starting to feel that the wiimote as a whole will turn out to be a gimmick after it's launch.

I could be wrong, but im just not hearing enough companies speaking on the use of its design in games.

Umm, most talking about supporting the Wii talk about how much they like the controller. If you’re expecting detailed descriptions of how the controller is used in their game long before it’s release, that’s just not what game developers generally do (I mean, Nintendo released the controller info pretty darn late and it still likely resulted in Sony’s partial mimicking of it).
