View Full Version : Weekend Gamer: What are you playing?

With excessive heat wave in the US and Europe, what better opportunity to protect yourself than by staying in and playing games! Though it will be 115 for the next three days here, in Phoenix we are used to the weather and don't have the humidity. City of Heroes is having a double experience weekend, so I will be playing a lot of that. When I get tired of that, I will work on some Spellforce 2 and writing up the review for it. Stay cool and play lots of games! What will you be playing?

I managed to get my gf addicted to WoW, so I'll hopefully be playing a lot of that with her. That and drinking. Mmm.. beer and Wow.

I keep telling myself I'm going to finish Kameo. I have one more person to rescue then I'm done, maybe. Other than that, I plan on picking up NCAA '07 for some Alabama lovin' and maybe Prey if I'm feeling irresponsible with my money.

Prey on Hard.

I'm gonna try out the demo of Battle for Middle Earth II on the 360 too.

Oh, and Pokémon. Raising a kick-ass team for an upcoming tournament.

I'll probably get back to trying to beat Dawn of Sorrow again. That or just keep running around collecting souls. That never gets old.

If you are up for it, lets hook up and try out some Kameo online. I see there are achievements to unlock in Co-op.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth on the PSP. I've heard so much about this classic RPG and I can't wait to give it a go!

Also I will try and finish Prey on the XBOX 360 and probably gets some multiplayer with that in.

More online fun with my ChromeHounds squad I expect. Though that depends on the heat. Here in Essex it's been so hot I've sometimes been afraid to switch the Xbox 360 on. Probably play around with BFME2 and Over G Fighters too. I've just picked up the original Forza Motorsport again, so I think I'll be playing with that a little - looks surprisingly good one year on.

Also messing around with Flight Sim 2004 if there are some big storms in the UK tomorrow. I'll be chasing them thanks to real weather courtesy of Active Sky 6.

In between long bouts of City of Villains due to the aforementioned double XP weekend I'll be doing lots of touching with Phoenix Wright. ;)

And oh--

I'll probably get back to trying to beat Dawn of Sorrow again. That or just keep running around collecting souls. That never gets old.

That's exactly why I quit Aria of Sorrow though I'm at the end. It's in Dawn of Sorrow too? DAMMIT. I HATE having to collect everything to beat a game or get the good ending (I'm looking at you, Wind Waker!)

GODDAMN From Software.

It was pretty hilarious last night. I had just finished a battle, and was tweaking my mech when my girlfriend came over. She wanted me to stop playing.

Still having a hard time getting into a game. Nothing seems to pop my twanger. Had fun with the Titan Quest demo but after picking up a new monitor it's tough to justify $50 on a game in the budget. I've got a huge backlog of unplayed games but nothing seems to call out to me. I think a lot of it has to do with my father's failing health. Got some borderline depression going on and the apathy that goes along with it.

Probably read a bit - Just picked up Fall of Hyperion and getting into that.

Finally have some time to put into my motorcycle restoration! Sun, bikes, spanners and beer!

I haven't turned on a console in about three weeks until yesterday, when I played a little Master System in honor of the 20th anniversary of system's US release (June of 86). Now that that's over, I plan on picking up my save of HL2 on xbox this weekend. I might play a little DS as well.

I had the same thing happen to me at the end of Dawn of Sorrow. I 'finished' it but not really. I had to put it back on the shelf for a bit.

Let's see. What's Spig playing this weekend?

Meteos (DS) - I was THIS close to trading this away a few weeks ago and I've become readdicted to it this week. Must... Fuse... More... Planets...

Chrono Trigger (SNES) - Once again, big kudos to Skjef for trading this with me. It's been so long since I've had a chance to play through this RPG masterpiece and I'm loving it just as much now as I did back in the day.

Dungeon Siege 2 (PC) - Inspired by playing some Titan Quest a week or two ago, I've decided to try to actually beat this game. Unfortunately I had to restart the game but I'm still enjoying the game, warts and all.

Plasma Pong (PC) - I'm absolutely loving this freeware game. It's pong with gorgeous fluid dynamics. Yummy.

And maybe some WoW, Metroid: Zero Mission and a few other things.

Oh, and it's the Biweekly Balderdash Bonanza at Casa Del Spigot on Saturday. Come one, come all, for a crazy night of wordplay. Woo!

Hoping to finish some more of Resident Evil 4... started playing it last weekend, and only got as far as "El Gigantor" or whatever the hell that thing's name is.

And, because of an exponential increase in my amount of Dreamcast games over the past week, I'm thinking about going through Soul Calibur in mission mode, Jet Grind Radio, and massive amounts of Crazy Taxi 2.

Oh, and if I can lock a copy down somewhere, getting started on Half Life from the beginning, so that when the new HL2:Ep2 MONSTER PACK comes out, I can be caught up from the start.

Finally settled on what video card to order (ATi Radeon X800 XL up from a GeForce 4 Ti 4400) last week and installed it last night. With this upgrade, I might be able to catch up on the PC scene now. I finally kicked my WoW addiction a month or two ago and played through a backlog of console games. Started into Prey last night. I'll probably finish it this weekend because I hear it won't take too much of my time, and I kind of like the portal technology. I'll consider it a warmup for Portal, having already tried out Narbacular Drop from the same design team. Also on the meun, though probably not this weekend, are Heroes of Might and Magic 5 and maybe Oblivion if I get around to picking up a copy.

My aging AGP rig continues to chug along until Vista and DX10 cards. Man, I really want to rebuild.. Sometime soon.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a new Gamefly account with 2 games, a monthly pass from Blockbuster, just got Guitar Hero, I re-activated my WoW account and have quite a few DS games to play. I just don't know which one I want to spend time with. I'll actually be leaving my apartment this weekend to hang out with friends and family. Perhaps a bit of scorching heat and smoggy air will clear my head and sharpen my gaming palate.

I'm sorry to hear about your father's failing health, Bad_Buddha. I hope you and yours are as well as you can be in such a situation.

Combat Flight Simulator 2: WWII Pacific Theater has drawn me in once again. A great air sim, the graphics are the only negative (circa 2000). The game makes up for it with a very satisfying frame rate and a excellent mission structure.

Also Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix has me by the short hairs. That is some great arcade racing.

Well, I just got finished playing Sign up for fall classes and take nothing but online courses. Now I'm free to play some Grim Fandango, FF6, Mega Man X, and various other retro-titles. Also, been enjoying Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (thanks to simedog!)

Been spending a lot of my free time listening to GamingFM (http://www.gamingfm.com) while MUCKing. I like it, not only for the classic tunes I love, but for great songs from games that I have never played (Zone of the Ends II has an excellent theme song).

1) A little bit of Brain Age (DS)
2) Big Brain Academy (DS)
3) Super Princess Peach (DS) (Just recleared the game for %100) :D
4) Trauma Center (DS)
5) A little bit of True Swing Golf (DS)
6) A little bit of Ninja Gaiden (Xbox)
7) A little bit of Resident Evil 4 (GC)

I really need to pick up Drill Dozer again, and add Soul Blazer, along with a few other roms for my PSP emulator in the future.

You still have to defeat Thorn. :)

Also, you have to collect all the crystals, elixirs, and fruit before you'll receive the "Completed the game!" achievement. Have you been reading the fruit newsletters? :D

I've sunk 30+ hours into the game, and I still have only 48% of the achievements. :(

I'm on the final stretch of Prey (I think), so I'll probably finish that.

Here's a list though of all the stuff I have on my gaming agenda:

Paper Mario: 1000 Year Door
Eternal Darkness
Resident Evil 4
Full Auto
Burnout
Skies of Arcadia
Ico
Titan Quest
GRAW
Ninja Gaiden
Devil May Cry 3
Shadow of the Colossus (this time on hard)
Psychonaughts
Mario and Luigi Partners in Time
Halo 2 (got back into xblive again)

That's quite a fucking list I have going, and I'm pretty sure that isnt all. I have built up such a huge freaking back cataloge, I get home and I dont know where to start! Ah well, I really need to play one game at a time and I'd finish them more quickly, but I'm not able to do that.

I got pretty bored of Chromehounds and decided I can't even stomach finishing the SP campaign. I might try the multiplayer, as I'm told that's what the game is all about, but the fundemental gameplay wont change, and that's part of what makes the game so god damn boring. I suppose if I had more time to sleep, I might not pass out while playing it, but I know Burnout doesn't do that to me, so I'll probably play that instead.

5) A little bit of True Swing Golf (DS)

Whats this like? Any good?

Basically, you use the stylus to swing your golf club, and are able to swing it at angles and such. You can zoom in or afar to see the entire course, check your trajectory, etc. (like in any golf game basically), and you're able to Pictochat with anyone nearby with a copy of the game.

I think it's a fun game, despite my not caring too much about golf itself. My personal opinion is that I play it more than Hot Shots Golf (PSP), but it's not as good as Mario Golf: Advance Tour (GBA). If you can, you should rent it or download a demo from someone you know who has the game and try if for yourself, as your opinion may differ from mine. :)

I just got Oblivion on Tuesday and I have already played 20 hours according to the game clock. Jesus, I thought my days of playing videogames that obbessively ended a long time ago. The last time I can remember playing a game for anything near remotely that long is when the original Phantasy Star Online came out for the Dreamcast, and that was around five (?) years ago. Needless to say, I think I like it. I just wish it was actually more scripted. The scripted events and archiecture is way more interesting than the randomized stuff. I can imagine this game with a real overworld as lovingly crafted as a Zelda overworld stuffed full of interesting secrets to uncover and unique set pieces.

On the Xbox itīs: Pshyconauts
On the PS2 itīs:Ico, Shaddow of Colossus
And for the Gc itīs: Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 4, Zelda Wind Waker and mabye the Twin Snakes, even though I have finished Mgs1 3 times on the ps1.

My Gc games list is the longest, because I got a Samsung 32" Lcd HDTV last year and after that my gc games looked like crap on the tv. They were running with the standard composite cables. After a few months of searching I tracked down a Component cable on Ebay from a guy in Japan and I got it yesterday. Wow the picture diffrence is wonderfull. I have recently also gotten a Component cable for my ps2 and Xbox1. Theese cables are sometimes hard to get here in Europe.

Now itīs just to sit my ass in front of the Tv, curse at the 24hour sunlight at the moment and play some games ;)

The only thing now that can stop me is that I finally got a Ds lite and with it Adwance Wars and Nsmb

I'll be playing ZOE 2. My brother found it for an incredibly low price, after I had searched for months. Needless to say, we are both more than pleased.

ZOE 2 is great. I started it up again recently but, as usual, other games came along and distracted me again. I'll be happy when they stop making games for these current gen systems as I'll be able to finally catch up, given that I won't be getting anything other than a Wii (possibly) for quite some time.

I always liked the concept and style of ZOE, and I enjoyed the demo of The Second Runner. I never payed much attention to it. But after a friend recommended to me, and I could get the original for the price of a meal from McDonalds, there was no reason not to. I liked what I got, but it was somewhat half done. I put that down to putting out a game to go with MGS2 demo. But ZOE2 builds and expands on everything the first did. It is truly a better sequel.

A little late, but I've been playing Circle of the Moon for the GBA (been hanging out at the Cheapassgamer forums, even did a trade for a shit-ton of GBA titles--Phantasy Star Collection, Circle of the Moon, Lady Sia, Astroboy and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance) and hoping to beat it soon.

Additionally, the kind-hearted Norse sent me Dawn of Sorrow for the DS and after I beat CotM I am going to move onto that game. I also beat Trace Memory the other day and bought Phoenix Wright--it's still in the shrink wrap and though I don't think I'll be playing it anytime soon, I figured it was prudent to buy it while I could...even if I don't play it for a year to come.

Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero are going for 19.99 at Sears (this week, I think...or something). I may pick up the former, as I unfortunately already own the shitty latter. I think they offer them online as well as the physical store, but all of the Sears stores I've been to lately have stopped selling games. Circuit City has the same sale soon I believe.

Does this mean you're actually playing your 360 since ending your Oblivion obsession?

Nice snag on the Phoenix Wright. My friends saw one new in the store and were told by the salesperson to buy Trauma Center instead. Sigh...

No, my 360 still sucks. It is just a movie watching device these days. I picked up San Andreas for the Xbox in the Circuit City bargain bin for 8.96 so I can play it on the 360, though. Again, it's in the shrink wrap along with F-Zero GP Legends for GBA and Pac-Pix and Phoenix Wright for the DS.

I bought Perfect Dark Zero a few weeks back and even though I beat it, it left a godawful taste in my mouth. Rare can do better, or at least they could back in their Nintendo days. PDZ was not a good game, it wasn't even "okay", at least not single player. And a game that doesn't have a good SP mode (regardless of how well the multiplayer is) isn't worth a purchase, not in my book.

Kameo I might purchase, because at 20 bucks how can you go wrong? I think I'm gonna trade in PDZ though, because I can't even stand it to be in my apartment. Oblivion (and GRAW) are still the two main reasons to own a 360 if you cannot afford a good PC. Oblivion was worth the price of admission (though I'm reluctant to say one game is worth 500 bucks all told), but the lasting appeal of the device cannot compete with the $129 dollar DS Lite. Thus, the DS is my system of choice these days.

I recently purchased FarCry for 20 bucks at Best Buy. It was sure worth it. Alot more bang for the buck then HL2:EP1. I also finished up on Rise of Legends.

You must join us and purchase Ouendan. You haven't had fun with a DS until you've played this game to death.

I spent most of this weekend actually playing Rub Rabbits on the DS. What a cute game. I really enjoyed Feel The Magic and this one was all that and a bag of chips.

What are the Rabbits you collect used for though?

I'm such a Deal Whore that I purchase any PC or 360 game that I'm mildly interested in if it's a good deal (only buy a $60 360 game if I really want it; otherwise, I wait until it hits $30). On any given weekend, I have way too many PC/360 games from which to choose.

I really should be admitted to a psychiatric ward. I doubt my gf would object. :o

I hope you enjoy the game. I think I forgot to delete the save games, but I guess that doesn't matter. I don't know why but I found it too damn difficult. I feared that my 2D platforming skills were gone, but I played through New Super Mario Bros this weekend so I think my skills are somewhat intact :) .

I only played for a bit because I'm trying to beat Circle of the Moon on the GBA first (now THAT can be a goddamn tough Castlevania). But from what I played of Dawn of Sorrow, I was already beginning to get addicted.

I'm going to pick up Kameo tonight after work and grocery shopping, if Circuit City has any in stock. Only 19.99, so even if I wind up disliking it it won't be too upsetting. I think I'm going to start purchasing all my 360 games when they hit a favorable price tag; a 60 dollar game will have to score in the 9/10 range at various publications, have a lengthy gameplay experience and be a genre I enjoy if I'm ever going to drop that much cash on a title.

I don't hesitate to pay full price on titles I'm interested in. Price drops like that only makes me buy titles I normaly wouldn't be interested in. So for me these price drops are a bad thing. I don't have the patience to wait for games to drop before I buy them.

I really enjoyed Kameo. If you take the time to explore everything, you'll get a lot out of it. If you stick solely to the main quest, you won't. The art direction is very good.

That's a great idea.

I've started to do this more often now. If I'm only mildly curious about a title, I'm renting it first to see how it plays. If it sucks, I'm not really out anything. Certain games I'll buy sight unseen (Okami, FFXII, Zelda) but my willingness to part with my cash has decreased greatly of late.
