Next Generation (http://www.next-gen.biz) is reporting that Sony Online Entertainment and LucasArts have announced a retail Star Wars: Galaxies compilation. Titled Star Wars Galaxies: The Complete Online Adventures, the compilation will include the original Star Wars: Galaxies and its three expansion packs. Also included will be a bonus DVD.

You can read more about it here (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3475&Itemid=2).

Slated to hit store shelves in November for a $29.99 price point, the compilation will also include a bonus DVD featuring an AT-RT vehicle for use in the game; screenshots and concept art; interviews with Galaxies' production members; in-game movie featurettes by fans; trailers and commercials; and a demo for Star Wars: Empire at War.

"For the first time, all of the Star Wars Galaxies gameplay is in one box, giving you, or the Star Wars fan on your holiday gift list, the perfect way to jump right into Star Wars Galaxies, and immediately start having fun," said Nancy MacIntyre, vice president of global sales and marketing for LucasArts.
And the Star Wars money train keeps on choo-chooing away.

Where is the truth in advertising these days? It just keeps going downhill.

"...the perfect way to jump right into Star Wars Galaxies, and immediately start having fun."

Everybody knows you can't have fun playing SWG.

The most disappointing gaming experience in my entire life, bar none. I actually enjoyed this game in the beta, rebels making sneak attacks on cities, huge battles, everyone relatively the same skill level, tons of fun. Game comes out, I rush out to buy it, even buy the super duper deluxe version, start playing and just start thinking, WTF is this? Where did the fun go? Why is this sucking so hard? I think it always sucked, it was just in beta, most people didn't care about leveling or being uber, so it was fun.

At some point, an MMORPG needs to come out where levels and all that crap don't matter. Where the gameplay is engaging enough to not need that. Guildwars comes close, but I still find that a drag after awhile.

Anyways, thanks Sony for fucking up my dream game.

I made the mistake of buying both the Super Duper Version of SWG and the X-Box version of KOTR at the same time. That big black SWG box sure got dusty quick. :/

SWG was never a good game. The beta was the most horrendous game I've ever played. Then, they released the BETA to the public, and sold it for 50 bucks. Nearly half of the bugs that were a problem (some of which were show stoppers) were left in the game upon release. You were paying Sony for a game they didn't finish, didn't care about, and didn't even have fun making. When the game came out, the team missions, as in, missions you do with other people, were fucking broken!

I'm pretty sure I spent 70% of my beta time playing a fucking instrument in a Cantina. I thought that was cool. The rest of the time, I was running around trying to make the broken ass missions work, or saying hi to people I knew in real life that were in the beta as well. The lag was also so bad that there was a fifteen second delay between two computers right next to eachother.

Worst game ever.

I forgot to mention the fact that not only is the combat horrible and broken beyond repair (or at least it was for a long time, I dont know how it is now), it only got worse as time went on. It was boring, lacked interactivity, and looked stupid. It also accomplished very little. I got killed by a little fucking bee because I couldn't figure out how to do shit to it.

The first complete revamp. The one before they removed the profession system. During the "beta" stage of it on the test server. SWG was actually incredibly fun. The economy was so much more forgiving than the actual games economy that you could afford to go out and wear down your best set of armor in a fun rebel vs empire battle. We had so many people fighting it was absolutely fun. But then it went out of beta and it...sucked.

I know they wanted the "player run economy" but I'm sorry it doesn't work. When you end up having to WORK for weeks upon weeks for a set of armor that is gonna wear out in just a few fights. It's simply not fun. Too much like work. Not enough like fun.

I played SWG for a good amount of time back in the day. It was fun only because I got into a great guild with some really fun people. But even that started to wear thin and I quit. When they did the big game revamp a couple of months ago I hopped in for the free 10 day trial. They actually did a good job making the combat more fun and engaging as well as parsing out rewards more quickly and whatnot. Also, the space combat was very fun. They did a great job putting in real time space combat.

I liked it enough that I reupped for a month. I would've kept playing, but I found I just didn't have the time for it. I guess what I'm saying is, SWG was greatly improved by that last revamp, so anyone with the time shouldn't feel bad about giving it a shot.

SWG has 180,000 subscribers currently, down from 260,000 subscribers in Spring of last year.

They have, without a doubt, the worst management of any MMO I've ever seen. That said, a lot of the problems with the actual game stem from the fact that the game is cobbled together on a foundation of popsicle sticks and rubber cement. Every time a single thing is changed, ten things go wrong in seemingly unrelated systems. And it takes six to twenty months to fix. And content is only ever delivered two professions at a time. And those two professions are ALWAYS Jedi and Bounty Hunter.

And also I still have a subscription for some reason.

I play a musician. When the Africa MMO comes out with its MIDI instruments and player-composed music, I may have a reason to leave SWG. But until then, it's the only MMO that lets me have a band with a semblance of real music.

But the game itself? It blows goats. I have proof.

They ruined SWG the second they released it with entire professions not working (Bounty hunter/Commando)

You care enough to go into the forum, log in and make a post...

I played the 15 day trial of SWG about 2 years ago, It was buggy and ugly, but I had fun, Not enough fun to actually buy it though. I dont think it was the worst game of all time or anything.
But I understand its gone downhill since then.

Perhaps they should scrap the whole game and start over.

I bought that super deluxe edition too, because my fantasy of a multiplayer star wars video game was overpowering my sad understanding of reality. I was dreaming of this awesome game where I play in the star wars universe. Then I remembered three things.

Every MMORPG is an uncreative rip off the Everquest model.

MMORPGS are more concerned about numbers than fun. (becuase to nerds numbers ARE fun)

And... Other people are absolutely no fun to play with. I envisined my charachter as being on the shorter side. About 5 11 and skinny. I made my charachter that way based on the in game numbers and hten entered the gameworld only to find that EVERYONE WAS TEN FEET TALL AND BUILT LIKE ATLAS. It was ridiculous. My guy, average male height, was a midget.

You obviously never ran into my character Fats Lardrunner. Think Ron Jeremy sans mustache. Of course, I only played for 30 minutes before uninstalling the piece of crap from my computer. Maybe that's why you never saw me.

Sony thought that they could use a big name to sell subscriptions. Think again. Produce a good game and I'll subscribe.

yeah, well the big problem is is that they never fixed any of those problems, they just sat around and said "hey you know what's a good idea? Lets not fix anything and give them moot for content for about 2 years, and then... lets completely change the game! Oh and even better! About a year after that lets do it AGAIN, and this time let's change our audience completely and make the game complete crap! Oh and let's do it on the day an expansion is released!"

God I hate SOE so much

I actually had fun in the SWG beta too. It was buggy as hell, and everyone knew it wasn't ready for release, but for some stupid reason I bought it anyway. I played it for maybe 3 days before canceling my account.

Here's to wasting money!!! *clink clink*

I was under the impression that they were redo-ing the whole game because of the risks that dangerously high quantities of goat blowing pose to gamers. Is this not true?

And if so, why would they release an extra special remastered extra crappy version deluxe for 3 easy payments of your soul?

The game, as people have said above, was the worst MMO I have tried. I have not played them all, but I have tried most once a free trial became available, and this one takes the cake; the horrible, pickled figs cake.

I never played it myself, but I have to boggle at how much hard work it must take to make an unsuccessful starwars product. You probably have to actively think of ways to sabotage the title.

From everything that was said the original SWG team was basically comprised of friends of friends that had no Video game design experience what so ever...think EP II only instead of countless Jango Fetts we have countless Jeff Kaplans. I understand that a lot of folks Blame Raph Koester for the ultimate demise of the IP, but I have been told several times that they told Raph to set down shut up and draw his salary shortly after Alpha. Who knows what he real story is the game sucks always has always will.

I think however LA may have an Ace yet to play if Biowares MMORPG turns out to be KOTOR online.
