Based on the PS2 game Genji, and set three years after the last chapter of Genkuro Yoshitsune’s life, Genji 2 continues to expand on the historical accounts of feudal Japan with beautiful next generation visuals and sword slashing gameplay.
Genji 2 is presented as a “traditional” action/adventure gaming experience and features more than double the amount of gameplay than its predecessor. Gameplay in Genji 2 includes more diverse levels of fighting, and more playable characters - all underlying an epic tale of a warrior’s honor. Check 22 new Genji 2 screens (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=35631) over at WorthPlaying.

I loved the first one except for a single problem, it was WAY too damn short. The game felt like half of the story was cut out of it. They put enough plot and characterization in there for a good 10 hour game, but let it end up around 5 hours. If this one is double the length for the first one, I'll certainly buy it.

Obviously, they didn't have Historical Crabs in the first one.

Mike is a sony fanboy, and hence is part of the only group of people in the world who don't find giant enemy crabs and real time weapon switching to be funny. Don't worry little fella, I'm sure Ken Kutaragi won't shoot his mouth off TOO much at the Tokyo Game Show (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/newsroom/view/57202).

It looks okay. I like their HUD element, though the actual bars could use some of that flower decoration scribed into them really subtle like. The pre-rendered sequences also look pretty. Overall the real-time stuff has that PS3 game look to it though. I’d like to see that fire in motion… for MASSIVE DAMAGE!

SHIT! Beaten by EVERYONE on the crab thing, sony just doesn't have ANYTHING preped for the ps3 launch so they've dipped into the "random hype" generator of zoodles a pulled out "historical" well thats my guess.
Also there WERE crabs that size just that they won the few battles they fought and as we all fully know history is written by the WINNERS not the losers and unfortunately crabs haven't mastered any form of communication intelligible to us homosapiens, oh and uh Chuck Norris.

To do REALTIME WEAPON CHANGE you would need the power of CELL.

I’m going to roll out a defense of the REALTIME WEAPON CHANGE bullet point:
If you think over the field of action games, especially Japanese action games, or Japanese 3d games in-general, you’ll find very few cases where you don’t have to pause the game, enter a menu, and scroll through a weapon list in order to change your weapon. They probably do this so they don’t have to try to load the animations in on the fly, and the games where you do have ‘real-time weapon switch’ are shooters, where there are no complex animations associated with the new weapon. So I can see how being able to switch weapons in real-time would end up as a bullet point if the person writing the bullet points had only played the sort of game that Genji is.
However to the non-Japanese market which has been using that feature since at least Wolfenstein 3d in FPS games, 3rd person action games, etc, it just sounds ridiculous as a “new” feature. It’s like saying “And our game will have whole levels with real time lighting!” or “Our new engine allows rooms to be placed beneath or above other rooms!”.

Wow did you see the AI in the game?! Simply amazing...when you're fighting one guy the others hang back and just stand there because they don't want to interfere with fight. Truly groundbreaking ;)
Edit: I realize this game isn't done but it was funny to watch.

It’s like saying “And our game will have whole levels with real time lighting!” or “Our new engine allows rooms to be placed beneath or above other rooms!”.I am sorry. There are bunches of games that have real-time weapon change, Japanese or not. In fact, your argument about "They probably do this so they don’t have to try to load the animations in on the fly" won't cut the mustard. If you watch the Genji video the weapon change does not have an animation, The old weapon vanishes with a flash and the new one appears.
The ONLY reason 'Real Time Weapon Change' would end up as a bullet item on a feature list is if there is no other feature to put on said list.
Real-time lighting is more impressive than real-time weapon change.
Real 3D maps are more impressive than real-time weapon change.
Real-time weapon change is the weakest, lamest excuse of a feature I can imagine, except for maybe; "It has real-time lens flare!"

This defense would work if there was some truly impressive weapon change animation... In the E3 video the new weapon just magically appears, no animation.

I am sorry. It’s not about the animation of pulling the weapons out. It’s about the 20 animations+ that go along with the weapon and how much space they take up. For example, the new run, idle, jump, and multiple attacks, combos, effects, etc. It’s not a problem with modern hardware (probably?), but if you’re working with something like the PS2, you’re not going to be able to pull all that off the disc the instant the player hits that weapon change button. It'll have to already be loaded in for every weapon the player could switch to, and that'll eat up your resources fast.
Edit: In DMC 3, there was real-time weapon switching, but you had to pick the two melee weapons, and 2 guns that you would like to be able to switch between, which makes sense because that way they only need to have those two weapons loaded at once instead of your entire inventory. It's also a matter of gameplay in this case.
Apparently GoW also allowed switching (the game only had 2 weapons) similar to what was shown in Genji, which involves you standing there and then switching the weapons where DMC3 allowed you to switch in the middle of a combo.
Alright, even for the genre the realtime weapon switching in Genji is weak. Also, after watching some DMC3 videos for research, Genji is freakn' slow.
