1up (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3152319) reports:
The television network's teamed with Korean-based Grigon Entertainment, the same studio behind the worldwide (except for the US) MMO Seal Online, for a kids-targeted MMO to be released in spring 2008.

The companies are reportedly developing the online game with an "East-meets-West," (style of gameplay) and hope to capture the untapped market of children. Online games are primarily designed for older gamers able to handle sophisticated gameplay concepts and statistics, ideas far too complex for the typical little brother or sister.
The story makes it clear that no Adult Swim shows or characters will be represented in the game. Bummer.

Well, I thought that would be pretty much understood. Did anyone actually think that Adult Swim characters would be showing up alongside Ed, Edd, and Eddy?

No, but it's not like it was outside the realm of possibility.

The companies are reportedly developing the online game with an "East-meets-West," ...I'm assuming they meant to say "an 'East-meets-West' style of gameplay"? But you wouldn't know it for sure, because the boneheads at 1up are absolutely horrible at finishing their thoughts.

Yeah, I was gonna edit that, but I didn't want to misquote the site. *shrugs*

Edit: I just put the additional words in parentheses so it made more sense while still being an accurate quote.

It concerns me that they're trying to sell "life destroying" mmorpgs to little kids.

Now read that sentence outloud while someone behind you screams *CHA-CHING* loudly into your ear so that you can't hear yourself.

Yeah, but the Cartoon Network daytime lineup is such shit. . . They've got Foster's, Grim Adventures, and reruns of Teen Titans. . . then a whole bunch of unwatchable crap.

I've seen episodes of TMNT recently at a friend's house (going through his old video tapes) and it was freaking awful, so I know that they are probably getting the child viewers despite how horrible shows like the Kids Next Door, and Ed, Edd, and Eddie are, but a lot of the cartoons from my youth weren't as exclusive to such a small audience.

My mom used to occassionally watch Duck Tales or G.I. Joe with me when I was in elementary school, and I remember watching Batman with my brother that was in high school all the time when I was a 6th grader.

While Teen Titans definitely strode the line and provided programming that was palatable to both adults and children, most of Cartoon Network's shows are just unwatchable now (except for Adult Swim and Naruto). They've lost Justice League, Samurai Jack, Teen Titans, Batman, etc. etc. It's become a black hole of cheaply animated crap.

But at least Adult Swim has cool stuff. Both The Venture Brothers and The Boondocks are incredible.

Does anyone even play Toontown?

The only reason I would buy this is if Samurai Jack is in it. And even then it would be a huge stretch.

I hate when the gaming community talks down to/underestimates children and gaming. I was playing Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy when I was, like, 7. Not to mention Clue, Monopoly and a bizzarre electronic game called Lost Treasure (which featured nothing but electronic ping noises to navigate your boat around looking for buried treasure.)

If there's something that's too complicated for a little kid to get the hang of with multiple attempts and explanation, then it shouldn't be as complicated as it is.

I'll agree withy you, Jaz. I'll also add that these guys have obviously never played WoW and watched general chat. WoW is filled with little kids so I doubt the "concept" of the game and the "mechanics" are too hard for them. But, then again, to your point that is the American way: kids are considered stupid, lazy, and in dire need of protection from everything until they turn 18. That magical age when, according to law, everyone matures.

They should of just let someone like do like disney and square did.

Imagine a game with all the MGS(ms game studios) merging with cartoon network. Some kid teamed up with Masterchief and Samuria Jack... Get to run into folks like Grimm and Blinx the cat... O_o

That's a RPG to kick Chuck Norris's ass... Although MGS has yet to make a rpg, but that hasn't Square.

Sweet! A grindfest for youngsters to teach them how to play adult grindfests like every other Korean-made MMO!
