Dude, I like to think I've taken the best drugs and watched zombie flicks while on them. Never in all my days did anything close to this fly through my rewired brain.

I heard the original show in Toronto was really good, and I regret not seeing it before I moved to the west coast.

Well if you can turn Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Color Purple into musicals, why not Evil Dead. :D

Can't be any worse than a remake of Evil Dead without Ash.......
Oh yeah, thats happening too...

Oh, cry about it. Would you rather have a remake with a non-Bruce Campbell Ash? So Sam Raimi wants his franchise reborn to a new audience. Good for him. Sam, Bruce, and Rob Tapert are all producing, and keeping a tight grip on the project. I have faith it will turn out good.

Good news: the first two rows are considered the "splatter zone."
Bad news: Tickets are $61, before all the crazy surcharges.

Is this Evil Dead 1, or Evil Dead 2? As I hope to see a duet betwen Ash and his hand.

I've seen bits of the old musical. There's some floating around on the net. While funny, I'm a hardcore stick-to-the-universe type of deadite.

Yeah I saw some of this in Toronto a few years ago. Their "debut" happened to occur at the same time as the great North America "blackout" so they did an outdoor performance by flashlight. Quite funny.

This is like saying, "Well Akira Kurosawa just doesn't get attention these days, so lets remake Seven Samurai."
If the kids can't stand to watch the original version, fuck 'em...
They're even remaking Halloween now for fuck's sake...

Well, Rob Zombie is remaking Halloween. And from what I read it's a "re-imagining" rather than a remake. He's an honest fan of horror movies rather than just a schmuck trying to cash in. I'll at least keep my eye on it.
But otherwise, I completely agree with you.

An Evil Dead remake without Bruce as Ash sounds like a terrible idea. There are certain "icons" you just don't mess with.

I swear, I say pretty much the same thing every month. So far I've missed seeing Patton Oswalt, David Cross, my favorite band that never !%#$!&#$ing performs outside of Europe except for the one month I didn't check their event calandar, and a favorite author.
Hmmm, this reminds me though that I should pick up Bruce's latest book, as the If Chins Could Kill was a fun read. (I especially liked the part about one of the original Evil Dead castmates getting scurvy because all he ate on set was macaroni and cheese.)

My buddy's now ex- girlfriend and a bunch of other folks put on a production of Evil Dead: Live (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/02/24/DDGO0BFCR51.DTL) here in SF that did a couple of runs. No musical, but the whole theater was the spatter zone.
Since she was playing lead, we got her some white roses and then every time the blood started spraying everywhere during the performance, we held them up to get covered. Then we gave those to her after the end of the closing show.

I've got two song captured at a montreal show if anyone's interested.. "What the fuck was that" and "Do the necronomicon". (also got the videos, 20 and 40megs, but they're really crappy)
I'll send them to Kef.
The show was like.. 20$ last year during the "Just for laughs" festival.

I'd see the musical. I can only imagine some of the songs...
As far as the remake is concerned, I'm not happy about it but I understand. The torch needs to be passed, I guess - though I would have thought Star Wars would've been remade first... And if you disagree on that then why is it o.k. to remake Evil Dead? So sad. If we're lucky, Ol' Bruce will have a cameo. Sam and Bruce go hand in hand.

if you deadites want to see a sequel to the movies then check out the comics. Right now its in the 3rd story and the first two were quite good.

I saw this musical about 4 or 5 years ago in Toronto at some crappy venue. It's a wicked musical and it's really really funny too! Go see it if you're a fan of the movies. You won't be disapointed

I just remembered that one of the songs is called "What the fuck was that?" Definitly of the more memorable songs in the musical. There's also some other really funny parts but i don't want to ruin them for anyone that hasn't seen it yet.

I heard the original show in Toronto was really good, and I regret not seeing it before I moved to the west coast.
I saw this when it played in Toronto at a theatre/hall near Spadina and Bloor (I think it was about two years ago). It was genuinely funny and entertaining. The guy who played Ash did a really good job. The only issue that my friend and I had with it, was the gore seats are not nearly gory enough. The movie is a bloody-porridge-covered-chunk fest and it would have been great if they pushed the envelope a bit more in the musical version. The venue could have been the reason they didn't. Still, I did get sprayed a few times.

Cripes, even Halloween? How long before Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, and Citizen Kane get remade? I really hope the entire movie industry collapses before too many more classics get butchered.
I can see it now - Gone with the Wind starring Ashton Kutcher and Paris Hilton.
