1up.com (http://www.1up.com/) has posted a follow-up to yesterdays rumor mill that Square Enix was working on a Final Fantasy XI-2 sequel to their popular PC, Playstation 2 and Xbox 360 RPG.
Yesterday's report that Square Enix was working on a follow-up to their MMO Final Fantasy XI has been shot down by the publisher.
As the Company announced in May 2005, it is currently developing an online title for next-generation platforms including game consoles and PCs; however, this title is being developed as a completely new MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online RPG). We will disclose further details of this title, including platform compatibility, immediately after any relevant decisions are made. What type of MMORPG could it be ??

If it were an MMO worth its salt, and able to compete in the American PC MMO market I would be shocked beyond belief. There has never yet been an MMO to come out of Asia that western audiences could stomach and I see no reason why that would change. After all, the ssian MMO's sell very well in Asia (shocking I know).

Chrono Trigger Online?
Vagrant Story Online?
THE BOUNCER ONLINE?
The possibilities are endless! Alright, I'm sorry Square, please give me my Akira Toriyama styled MMORPG, Dragon Quest or Chrono Trigger are both acceptable.
I hope SE isn't talking about Fantasy Earth; haven't heard anything about that mmo in a while.

I can't decide if a Dragon Quest MMO would be good or bad...
Ok, Decided.
A Dragon Quest MMO would make Lineage 2's grind look like World of Warcraft.

Weren't SE talking about a World of Mana MMORPG a whiles back? I've heard that they're working on 2 seperate MMORPGs at the moment, but most of the reports are so vague it's hard to tell at this juncture.

I think this is it. I just got my newest EGM in the mail, and in the rumors page they have a little snippet about a Mana mmorpg...

I agree... except that rumor snippet said that it would be a Wii game. I guess that doesn't exclude a PC version.
Did you see the rumor about Dragon Quest 9 being a Wii exclusive? That would be huge for Nintendo...

Front Mission Online is already confirmed, odds are they knock out a fantasy one for their undisclosed title. With the way the super-unrealistic graphical stylings of WoW have er, "wowed" the mmo market, I would say that an Akira Toriyama styled game would be the way to go. With the various classes/subclasses and huge potential for instanced content ready to be exploited with a chrono triggeresque world (time travel makes good "group only" content reasoning) I would have to say the possibility intrigues me.

Final Fantasy Tactics Online. Which will have huge army tactical battles with chocobos and mogs, and Bahamut raining holy mutha-of-god whoop ass just as an army of Calculators figures out the numbers to Lost to unlock Knights of the Round.
Yeah, that would work.
