To fans of 2001's excellent ( but commerically meh ) Undying, here is some great news. Clive Barker is working on a new game. (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/719/719440p1.html)

"I don't want to give too much away just yet, but the concept is that somewhere in northern Africa there is a walled city which is not just a walled city but walls within walls within walls," Barker said. "It's like Russian dolls, spaces within each other, and trapped inside each space is a slice of time where the warriors of good have gone against ultimate evil and have lost."

As players progress through the game, they will be battling through time, as each area holds enemies from a previous historical era. "Some are evil, some are not, and you have to make up your own mind," Barker said.

This sounds like it has potential to be a wickedly good action horror game. I have yet to meet a person who played Undying that didnt like it.

EDIT: Actually... the routers link (http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=filmNews&storyID=2006-07-18T055726Z_01_N18358904_RTRIDST_0_FILM-MEDIA-BARKER-DC.XML&pageNumber=0&imageid=&cap=&sz=13&WTModLoc=NewsArt-C1-ArticlePage2) is better. Oh... and next gen consoles + PC as the target platforms.

Oh... and to fans ( such as myself ) of HellRaiser, this is a pretty cool tidbit too...

In addition to "Jericho," he is up to nearly 3,000 handwritten pages of a novel titled "The Scarlet Gospels" in which he said he descends into hell. "I'm actually going in pursuit of the guy with the nails from 'Hellraiser,' who I haven't written about in ages," Barker said.

Good news. I loved Undying, it's one of my all time favorites. It's just a tradegy that it didn't sell better. If this game is close to Undying in terms of style, nerve and atmosphere I'll get it without a doubt.

Awesome news, it'd be better if I knew something about the developer.

Developer is Codemasters (http://www.codemasters.com/games/) . They are pretty hit and miss. TocA and Colin McRae games are probrably the best known. Or Operation flashpoint. They have the talent to make really good games... but they have the ability to make really shitty ones aswell.

Yeah they scuppered the Toca series well and truly with the latest gash.

Still, I hope Barker can help deliver another Undying.

Serapth - I cut this from your main post as it seemed unrelated to the game.

But this isn't a news post o.o

Sounds interesting. I love me up some Clive Barker books so this should be right up my alley.

Undying is a wicked cool game, but way too scary. I quit playing after an hour or so - I got too freaked out. Same with RE4. I completed SH2 though for some reason...

Undying was a lot of fun, I still have that in my collection I may give it an install just to see how its aged.

Um, the developer Codemasters is basically shit. The publisher Codemasters kicks ass.

Flashpoint was developed by Bohemia Interactive.

Very awesome news. I've never actually finished Undying, but one of these days I will get around to it. Got pretty far in it back in the day when I first played it.

Oh, and it's spelled Reuters, not Routers. Not even pronounced the same.

The Scarlet Gospels should be awesome. A shame that the book is already a year overdue.

I remember Clive Barker said he was sick of Pinhead and wanted to kill him off, maybe this new book he's writing will do so.

And as for the game, Undying was great, I hope this new one is just as good.

That's awesome! I loved Undying. One of the games, besides SS2, that ranks at the top for sound and atmosphere. I still play it at least once a year. Barker FTW. McFarlane isn't even fit to lick Barker's used black printer ink cart. :)

Hopefully Codemasters will only be the publisher and not the developer house. That or Clive holds tightly onto the reins.

When I saw the title of this post my first thought was "Shup Up and Jam! was pretty cool... ." Sure I just woke up five minutes ago, but still. I mean, wow. Y'know?

Oh man, Undying is one of the greatest atmosphericly scary games of all time. If you haven't played it, do yourself a favor and pick it up. This is excellent news. I was wondering when we'd hear from him again.

this title sounds interesting. I haven't played "Undying" so I'll have to check that out considering that everyone is making it sound like a master piece.

I wonder if the game will tie into some old African lore or actually have black people in it... not the Moja (Damned Loco Rocoists)... I mean go into a different direction than most games and include a playable character from another culture - i.e. Spain, Egypt, Moroco, etc.

I gotta get a copy of Undying and a computer that can run it soon... Looking forward to this game, I hope it doesn't suck. Just picked up and read the Books of Blood because of someone here from EA recommending them, and enjoyed them. Always been a fan of Hellraiser.

Clive Barker's best book every is by far the Abarat series. It's like mixing fucked up fantasy with light horror. TONS of art too - he makes hundreds of paintings per book. :)
