As previously reported (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14954&highlight=lumines+famous) on Evil Avatar, Lumines II for the PSP will feature famous artists on the soundtrack. Amongst those artists announced are The Black Eyed Peas, The Chemical Brothers, Gwen Stefani and The Go! Team.

There's a full list of all the artists Inside. (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?p=346356#post346356)

Some of those I see as a perfect fit, some sounds like it could be garbage.

Buena Vista Games Reveals Soundtrack For "Lumines II"

First Handheld Video Game with Actual Music Videos to Include Variety of Popular Artists

BURBANK, Calif. — (July 18, 2006) — Buena Vista Games, Inc. (BVG), the interactive entertainment arm of The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS), today announced details of the soundtrack and music videos that will appear in the highly anticipated music-based puzzle game, “Lumines II,” from renowned developer Q ENTERTAINMENT. As the first handheld video game to feature artists’ actual music videos, “Lumines II” for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system is a mesmerizing sequel to the popular game, “Lumines.”

“With some of today’s most popular artists involved, ‘Lumines II’ is an amazing project,” said Michael Ryder, senior vice president of global production, Buena Vista Games. “Combined with an exceptional game design from Tetsuya Mizuguchi, ‘Lumines II’ delivers an exhilarating experience.”

“In order to showcase my vision for ‘Lumines II,’ we needed to find music and videos with just the right tone, mix and energy to incorporate into the game,” said Tetsuya Mizuguchi, chief creative officer of Q ENTERTAINMENT. “I couldn’t be happier with the result and am excited to get the game into players’ hands.”

Music videos appearing in the game will include (artist and song):

* Beck – “Black Tambourine”
* Black Eyed Peas – “Pump It”
* Chemical Brothers – “Star Guitar”
* Fatboy Slim – “Gangster Trippin’”
* The Go! Team – “Bottle Rocket”
* Gwen Stefani – “Hollaback Girl”
* Hoobastank – “Born to Lead”
* Junior Senior – “Take My Time”
* Missy Elliott – “Lose Control”
* New Order – TBD

Two additional songs will also appear on the game’s soundtrack:

* Junkie XL – “Breezer”
* Stigmato Inc – “Reality Check”

“Lumines II” is the highly anticipated sequel to the extremely addictive puzzle-based video game, “Lumines.” To play “Lumines II,” gamers control squares made of four smaller block pieces that are dropped into the playing field, one at a time, to form same-color rectangles. The vertical “timeline” sweeps across the playing field from left to right, and wipes the same-color rectangles from the playing field. Unmatched blocks pile up and the game ends when the pile gets to the top of the playing screen. Advance through many action-packed levels, each with its own musical theme and sound effects.

“Lumines II” also features music written exclusively for the game by Japanese artist Shinichi Osawa, also known as MONDO GROSSO, who provided the opening track for the original “Lumines.” Tracks from Ken Ishii (DJ/producer) and TECHRIDERS, both from Japan, are also in the game. With more than 60 stylish skins, wireless two-player ad hoc gameplay, all new battle modes, sensational new 3D backgrounds, and all-new graphics and streaming video, “Lumines II” promises to deliver an addictive video game experience on a whole new level.

“Lumines” earned widespread acclaim and has sold more than 700,000 units worldwide, to date. According to video game review score compilation site Gamerankings.com, “Lumines” is one of the highest-rated PSP system titles, with an average review score of 90 percent.

“Lumines II” will be available in November throughout North America.

Wow! That music list reads like the who's who of industry sellouts.
Not like it really matters at this point, I just want to play Lumines and since I don't have a PSP the XBLA version can't get here soon enough.

Hollaback Girl is one of the most retarded songs of all time, especially if you already know how to spell "bananas".

Coming soon: Rez 2, now with more James Blunt!

Ugh.

It may as well be an Electronic Arts title at this point with all of the licensed music. :(

Ugh.

Lumines II without online play = shit.

I maxxed out 9's numerous times in the original Lumines and loved every minute of it. The best part about the game were the beats and the backgrounds, the music wasn't this repetitive, American dog shit that I've been abused with for a year over terrestrial radio.

Not too impressed, but I can say that Junior Senior = yes.

It's like they took all the shitty music of this era (which is all of it) and find the worst of the worst.

Lameness. Why do they have to put songs into it that were already overplayed? By the time you fire up the game you'll be tired of listening to the song already. I'm referring to Hollaback Girl, Pump It, and Lose Control. I guess we all saw this coming though to some extent... *sigh*

I'm more looking forward to this on Live then on the PSP. Mutliplayer too.

I find this song list quite lame as well.
I DO NOT APPROVE!!

Go! Team, Junior Senior, Beck, Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim. They fit the game, even though I don't think the Go! Team song is the best fit as it's too chaotic, nor do I think Gangsta Trippin is a good song for the game either.

I hope it has more music like the first one, some house and acid music.

Meh.

All I want to know is when the PS2 version is coming.

You mean the XBLA version? Surely you do.

Unless there is a way to turn off some songs... well most songs, I wont be buying this piece of pop infested shit.

Yay for Mondo Grosso being back, hope they do some more stuff with Nobuchika Eri, and as everyone else says boo to all the new "famous" songs.

Hollaback Girl.. IT FUCKING B-A-N-A-N-A-S.

They must be aiming at the pre-teen market.

No... I mean the PS2 version.

I'm sure that I read somewhere that they were porting Lumines to the PS2 as well as XBLA.

I stand by my misguided visions! Time to go poking around the net to see if I can figure out why I'm still convinced of this mythical port...

{edit}Aha! I was right. They're doing a version of Lumines for the PS2 called Lumines Plus (http://www.gamestats.com/objects/824/824776/) . Neener neener neener. {/edit}

Will the PS2 version let you download additional songs and videos like the 360 version?

And another franchise dies the death of over commercialization. The soundtrack was such an important part of Lumines, and I have no desire to hear any of these crappy songs over and over again as I play Lumines II, so it's the XBLA version for me.

Boo... It's one thing to liscense music, it's another thing to liscense music with virtually no lasting appeal. Anyone else remember Andrew W.K. on Madden 2003 (or 2004, i can't remember)...

Somewhere there's a sound engineer updating his resume.

Quick and dirty version, I don't have a 360 and am not planning on getting one anytime soon. I DO have a PS2.

As for downloading new songs and videos, I'm cool with what is already on Lumines and I'm sure they'll toss a few more bits of eye/ear candy on the Plus disc.

No, I knew they were, I was just trying to hypnotize you into buying a 360. :p THINK OF THE ACHIEVEMENT POINTS.

Heh. Unless you have a spare 360 kicking around, there may be NO game purchase in the House of Spig for the next few years if I end up going back to school for this game design BS degree.

I might even have to *gasp* cancel my Wiiorder! NOOO!

I was happy when Lumines II was announced for PSP, but as soon as I heard that they were using licensed music, I might end up overlooking this.

I can swallow my pride and admittedly (not) accept the fact that there's no online play (that would have been a perfect fit for multiplayer), and like some members on this thread already voiced, I liked the original's rave and techno soundtrack.

Maybe the tracks in Lumines will be included as unlockables. :(

*Cue "Sister Walk" and "My Generation"*
